The Hobbit loses Guillermo Del Toro

I like watmm, because there are people that express what I'd like to but don't because it's hate. Lots of hate.

wtf LOTR trilogy is great and this features all the same people working on it... I'm expecting awesome

" Last law bearing means that any reformer or Prophet will be a subordinate of the Holy Prophet (saw) and no new Messenger and Prophet with a new religion, book or decree will come after him. Everything from him will be under the banner of Islam only."

"Great". Sure tries hard to be great, but what of any kind of depth in there? All simple Hollywood solutions, no heart, no character to the movie. And that crappy soapy music.

Hate.

Its a magical fantasy world full of colorful characters and majestic environments.... My friends and I during high school had many awesome late nights watching these movies. Gandalf smoking his pipe and laughing! Or the "Fool of a Took!" line... they are charming films. They have a heart and the music is fantastic.

Have you read the books?

I've read the Hobbit, but not the others. Most people I talk to who have read them all like the movies, sometimes more than the books and vice versa... but I haven't come across anyone who thinks the LOTR films are simply hollywood solutions with no heart... not mention hating on the music which only puts a smile on my face.

I thought the LOTR films were pretty crappy. They all had a few entertaining moments but they're very uneven. And Wood's concerned facial expression really wears out its welcome after the first 2 hours.

It was a noble effort, I guess, after so many stumbles and false starts. But where the books are wonderfully balanced in tone between studious world-building and escapism, serious and fun, the movies feel simultaneously self-serious and campy. There's a difference.

edit: I was initially sort of excited for the Hobbit adaptation, because it would have been an opportunity for Peter Jackson to make something a bit reined in and better balanced--and probably better suited to story telling through cinema. But alas.

The big epic action sequences in LOTR succeeded in being big and epic and exciting, but the acting, the dialogue, the story development... it was shit. It was shitty. After the 1000th dramatic close-up you realize that everything outside of the battle sequences is a bucket of overmelted cheese.

Compson, in the end I'm just and old artish fart. If you enjoy, do it. But being a hardcore Tolkien fan I cant sit silent while I think it's being raped in front of my eyes. So I hate.

Yeah its cool and I see what you are saying, but I think you mis-judge them because they are big budget and tailored towards larger audiences etc... I look at them independently and I don't see the books as being raped but rather whole new generations are reading them because of the films. Whats the best fantasy film you'd say?

Maybe Willow for me. When I was a teenager I consumed all kinds of stuff I'm not that proud of anymore haha, but I guess it was just proper for me then. If I watched Lotr films then I'd love themm but then there was art education and all that and I lost interest in the spectacular and want to see things that don't kill senses but develop them.

Hahahahaha hopefully not. But I think you have it slightly off. I think it's a bit closer to the following:

I think the obvious choice here for a replacement is Woody Allen.

I agree the movies are total schlock -- but I shamelessly just want to be immersed in the visuals of the world and to enjoy some great special effects. If I want characterization, I'll just read the book and fill it in proper with my mind.

Side note: Instead of writing 'shamelessly,' I began to typo 'shemales' ... :/

i am hot shit ... that smells like baking bread.

Talk of a 3rd film worries me.

Peter Jackson has eased into a position of "I can make movies as long as I want".

King Kong could have been 60 minutes long. If it was, it would be a zillion times better.

I've read The Hobbit. I think it is still a stretch to make 2 movies of it, but whatever. 3 movies is just cray cray.

They made 3 movies out of 3 books, before. That makes sense.

I love the lotr films. I just don't want this to get ugly.

it's not solely based on The Hobbit though - it's The Hobbit + all the stuff that happens up until the 1st LOTR movie - a lot of which is chronicled in Tolkien's Unfinished Tales book. plenty of material for 3 movies imo.

Whoa. Hold on. Is Silmarilion shit up in there?

Edited by jefferoo

no simarillion stuff as far as i'm aware - most of that comes way before The Hobbit mythos, like thousands of years before. there has been talk of a silmarillion movie at some point though, or at least a movie based on one of the stories contained therein. probably wouldn't happen for years though, if at all.
