I'll add another recommendation for winter in the belly of a snake. it's got a very unique claustrophobic depressed feel. that, cavalcade, and cylinder box would be my recommendations for the hardcore intelligent dance music aficionados.

Those would be my recs, plus Rossz to round out the collection of A-funk moods.

you know what, i was just listening to HCCBU again and realized that all this is, is an Autechre album, that's it. if i didn't know who Snares was, this would just be a lost Autechre record.

in terms of the way the tracks are structured, it sounds nothing like autechre.

Cavalcade of Glee... is my favorite VSnares album.

It is chock full of win, 100% guaranteed.

This x million. Every track is incredible. I can't work out XIII's Dub and I don't think I ever will. Pwntendo is the best track he's ever written and will ever write. It's his Vordhosbn. :trashbear:

I always find the Venetian Snares sound close to being mind blowing, but it never quite reaches it. With Cavalcade it does. It's so effortless and breathtaking, like it created itself. It sounds like he'd mastered his style by that point, in 2006.

I don't think I'm getting across how amazing I think this album is. I mean listening to Pwntendo frequently makes me cry tears of joy, as though in just over 4 minutes he's created the kind of music I've wanted to hear all my life. But just the beginning of Swindon, and the sheer pace of it. It's about 4 seconds but it sweeps you along much like the rest of the album.

edit: re Last Step. Cakey is ace.

I'll step in and provide you with what I can. =D

1961 (Last Step)

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=87D2CB266EDAE2C3

Horsey Noises

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=259C6D78ECFBB82F

Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=10E7886D896AC811

My Downfall

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6561E0ADABA1257F

Filth

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=DC101B05A76CB4DD

That's all I've compiled into a playlist as of yet. I could provide some one offs of tracks too.

As far as albums I'd recommend:

Cavalcade and Hospitality are glorious and full.

Filth because I, like xxx, just fucking love acid tracks.

Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding is mentally exhausting and has some fun novelties to it.

Rossz is pretty decent, but I like My Downfall more for what it is, except Ketsarku Mozgalom and Masodik Galomb.

Horsey Noises and Horse and Goat are both incredibly underrated. They both has some great tracks.

Songs About My Cats was actually my introduction to Aaron Funk, it's just something else that I think should be heard at least once, even if you hate every second of it.

Winter in the Belly of a Snake is fantastic and I don't know why people often fail to remember it. It's definitely neglected and definitely claustrophobic with different stuff on it.

Meathole has awesome drum programming and awesome samples, despite their cheese.

Pink + Green is something I'm a sucker for.

I feel like such a fanboy. My favorite overall album is definitely Cavalcade, even if Filth is my most listened to. Second would have to be tied between Filth and HCCBU. I realize I left out The Chocolate Wheelchair Album, but that's because it sounds like normal ragga and jungle, despite being Vsnares style ragga and jungle.

I'll crash my yogurt truck until I create spine yogurt.

hey probably asked this before but is Aaron Funk really bipolar (lithium twatting Ketsarku Mozgolam etc.) or just would make a lot of sense given the nature of his music and it's a red herring. Also did his dad die

It's definitely not breakcore, that's for sure. It's more like typical drums in odd times and synth work. Really, your best bet is to just listen to a Last Step song (I posted all of the 1961 on the previous page in a large post) then listen to a Vsnares song of your choice.

No clue on the bipolar thing, never read anything about it or him mentioning it. I could venture to guess he might be or he may just have suffered/suffers deep depression of some sort.

I think it's assumed his father is dead because he said he sang in Winter in the Belly of a Snake since it was "his most personal work to date" and were "his stories." I feel it's safe to assume.

yeah I'm getting that from this

  Quote
"Kétsarkú mozgalom" ([ˈkeːtʃɑrkuː ˈmozɡɑlom], lit. "Bipolar Movement")

and that chemical formula track on HCCBU links directly to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_carbonate

he also has a track called "Girl/Boy for Asexual Lithium Addicts" or something

That could very well be possible, it could also reference someone very close to him that is bipolar too, but it'd make sense to more likely be him. Never really thought about it before, it's an interesting idea. However, Lithium Carbonate doesn't help the help the depression side of bipolar disorder, apparently.

I've never listened to Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972–2006 before, I think I ignored it because I thought it was a compilation album of his earlier music, and maybe it is. But Dismantling Five Years is nice. Listening to a lot of his stuff, the automatically frenetic thing can get tiresome for me when it's not done so well, so I love his more relaxed tracks. I'm Sorry I Failed You, Aaron, Bebikukorica Nigiri, P, Senki dala, Hiszékeny are some of my favourite tracks of his.

I like them due to their rarity. As opposed to an artist who only writes that kind of music, it's more refreshing coming from someone who doesn't, and shows a different side of themselves.

Find Candace is a solid release too. Aaron's music has gotten a bit samey as of late, but I love revisiting this old stuff after not hearing it for awhile. Some of it is really fucking great.
