Let's be fair though, Owner of a lonely heart is one of the BEST pop-tunes EVER made.

Yes, Both Yes songs posted are great. Roundabout definitely better, but Owner of a Lonely Heart is great too. Can't say much for the rest of that album though.

Yet an excellent 80s pop song, specially when you watch the Breakfast Club.

edit: God knows how much I love causing page breaks and being on top of it.

George Duke making catchy pop tunes is not selling out in my opinion: he's capable of making great funky pop tunes and his voice is awesome, so why shouldn't he? His own work has always been quite poppy even before the 80s started. And a lot of jazz musicians made poppy tunes in the 80s: Herbie Hancock did it, Stanley Clarke did it, even Billy Cobham tried it (and failed pretty horribly). Not people I would call sell-outs.

Yo, my name is Saad and I don't give a fuck.

It's true Owner of a Lonely Heart is a great song and happens to be my mom's favorite song, Her favorite part is when that stab comes in lol.

She loves Roundabout too.

Yeah, it is a very good pop song, but it's just a shame they sold out so bad :(

In what way did Simple Minds "sell out" with Don't You Forget About Me"? If anything, that song was an instant classic (only further cemented by the Breakfast Club's instant place as one of the 80's defining movies), and was arguably the pinnacle of Simple Minds' musical career.

I quite like 'Don't You Forget About Me', but it's a bit stadium-friendly compared to their first four albums. Also, U2 went from making half-listenable records to overblown self-important shit.
