Clearly you do, otherwise you wouldn't be posting. Why else would you say your original post in a pejorative manner? Trying to assuage your wounded national image by picking on nation that clearly sucks at football, tsk tsk, how amateurish.

:cerious: what do you advice then? :cisfor:

have some coffee, and change your avatar. Then leave this place, never to return.

following a team is usually more then just buying there football shirt and watching games on sky sports.

for me following a team is traveling around the country watching your club, dark cold Tuesday evening games, the wet December games the game discussions in the pub after, the pre-game meet up in cafes. the signings, clean sheets, the departures, beating your rivals, buying season tickets, the smells of hot dogs, the ups and down of following your team, feeling proud wearing the badge. i find it a lot more personal then following the waste of spaces of england. but the sence of pride flowed over england up to the first game of the world cup was somewhat awe inspiring. pity it had to end as it did.

as for it being stuffed in your face, yes and no. no-one told me to support my team, its just the local team who i happen to go see when i was 9 years old. and that feeling never went away, i love it. football is no doubt MASSIVE. if your born into a football lovng family its no doubt you'll be put in the shit at a young age.

as for arm chair fans say for example who have grown up in London near a club and support a northern based club because they won the cup at some point. i have no idea.

yeah man, i understand everything you've said.. it's like.. a routine.. but a much loved one. smells and sights and cold nights all adding to it. i get that.

what i don't get, tho.. like you.. i spose, is ppl from one end of the country supporting a team at the other end of the country!

shouldn't people support their local team? even if they're shite?

that's what it used to be all about, didn't it? locals playing locals.

i know people who play for Chelsea, so i'll support their team.. cos they're close to home and close to family.

but, like Chris said, arm chair Liverpool and Man U fans who live in London and might never have been to LP.. WTF is that all about??? lol

What about those of us deprived of professional soccer in our locality? If I had grown up in say Middlesbrough, I'd undoubtedly follow 'boro. As it is, I have no chance to watch anyone of any quality play here.

shouldn't you just support your local team, tho? whoever they are. if you love 'the game' then why don't you support your local lads???????

why would you watch it just for the world cup or euro?

because they're the big deal and the whole country gets into it.

especially the world cup. you can't help but get swept up into it all. it's like war.

and cheap beer deals at varous supermarkets serve only to fuel the whole thing..

it is like a mini war, imo. sponsored by Tesco. Lol

no, you just like soccer way too much. fuck professional sports events, worldwide. they're a waste of our collective energy that should be being put to better use.

it's the exact same thing as the rest of the entertainment business. and religion. Sports are like those two things rolled into one thing. I don't know why you pick on sports/soccer however, as they actually provide hope and faith to billions of people, and distracts them from their completely shitty lives and gives them something to be happy about. Why would we want to get rid of that. Lucky for you you live in a privileged society where you can whine and moan and bitch about things that don't fit into your view of florida.

that arguement makes sense. and i've heard it before.

football.. can bring ppl together and make ppl happy. which is good.

but, it also makes ppl fucking mad and makes ppl want to kill each other. for no good reason other than 'my team's better than your team'. LOL

a lot like religion.

it's all so childish!

Cause there is no professional football here. I've played at the level that the local professional team plays at, why would i go pay money to watch that?

football = football

soccer = gay name for football

american football = rugby for pussies

rugby = chance for big men to have baths with each other after cuddling and getting muddy.

i support Chelsea because of family links, plus i live near there. it all makes nice simple sense really.

i've never been an armchair devotee to a team a million miles away, or a glory hunter shitbag, like some...

Have you been warching Danny Dyer on Bravo again, get to bed and stop wanking. Either that or youve just typed that on youre freshly produced Xerox Star, i really cant tell.

Working class boys dont need football as a reason to fight and violence has been almost completely eradicated from grounds, with Millwall/West Ham being the stand out in over a decade and even that was just a few cock'ney types throwing bottles. Even Cliftonville can generally go about their business relatively unfettered these days. Theres still is some posturing these days, but thats generally all it is.

Anticipation of moments like this make football. 5 minutes of elated excitment after hours (some times years) of misery.

The first thing i did after seeing this thread was goin to your profile to see if you might be one of the 2 girls on watmm. This doesn't imply any criticism.

To answer the question: it's mainly about the tactics and economical aspects. I could switch to some other sport but i was raised with bayern munich.

oh, and sometimes giggs gets a yellow card in the box.

nah its an on-going laugh a minute over there in southampton.

first they wouldn't pay scunthorpe compensation as nigel adkins is still on a 12 month rolling contract, then they signed him then they didnt.. its a massive lol.. scummers need to relize one thing - they are no longer a BIG club, they wont get a BIG name manager, but every southampton fan thinks they are. 18th in league 1... yeah MASsive, what does that AFCB 6th in league 1?
