The Cardigans (Gran Turismo is a pop masterpiece of darkness)?

Nina Persson of The Cardigans has released two albums as A Camp. The first was altcountry, and the second was more 60s pop rock. Both albums are great though.

Mono had an LP in 2009 Last year they released Ground: NYC Live With The Wordless Music Orchestra, through Temporary Residence Limited in Europe and America, and Human Highway in Asia. "The band has since announced that they will taking another year-long break and will be going into "hibernation mode", returning to Japan to work on songs for a new album."

^Thanks wikipedia. I love Mono but I haven't given them a proper listen in awhile.

Wait, unless you're speaking of the British trip-hop band, Dutch post-rock band, female Austrian reggae artist, Swedish trance artist, Korean pop ballad trio, Polish hip-hop band or the Dutch indie rock band. In that case I have no fucking clue.

Remember LFO ?? where are they??

Saw Mark do a set at Astoria before Squarepusher a couple of years back.

Was an awesome set.

Fuck knows if he does much else???

Mark from LFO was heavily involved with Bjork around the Homogenic album

Oh wait, that was fucking years ago, never mind.

Dude Mark's been involved with pretty much everything Björk has done since that album.... He contributed to a few tracks on Medúlla and Drawing Restraint 9, almost the entire album of Volta, the miscellaneous tracks she's been dropping here and there and also her live shows. Got to see him run her electronica a few times on the Volta tour; not exactly an LFO gig but a fucking incredible thing to witness :) The show she did in Osaka blew my fucking mind

Yeah, him and another guy used a reactable to play her heavier dance tracks when I saw her in 2007. They played "Pluto" from Homogenic as an encore and it fucking sick! It appears he's really become the core of her live and studio setups, at least in the sequencing and electronic music aspect.

Thx for the info about brothomstates, I had been wondering too.

And re: Arovane, I read that he had retired and that he meant "Good Bye Forever" when he said it...

Really?

She did this in 2009. All vocal stuff though, I didn't like it at all. This was re-released with a remix by Brian Dougans too.

They might have done live things recently, but I could really do with some new material from Biosphere and Murcof soon. C'mon guys, we know you've been recording, where is it?

Mark's an excellent producer. His production really shines through on Depeche Mode's 'Exciter', without a doubt my favorite DM record. I'd love to see him do something else than Björk these days, not that I don't like (/adore) her, but imagine a new Depeche Mode record produced by him. Sheer brilliance it would be.

On another note, I really would like to know what Mark Hollis is doing these days. I remember reading that he did some piano work on an Unkle record, I believe it was 'Psyence Fiction', yet uncredited/credited under a different name.

I adore Talk Talk and Hollis immensely.

the avalanches

Just heard from a mate that they are releasing their second album imminently after getting clearance to use their samples. This was posted on their wiki page: "In June 2010 a message was posted on the Avalanches forum saying "i hear ariel pink is recording some guest vocals for it and once those are done, the album will be finished", indicating the second album will get a late 2010 release."

I lump them with MF Doom because they annoy the shit out of me with the constant delays and teasing, which is frustrating because I admire both artists. I don't mind the false hope of RDJ and BoC rumors because they stay mute while the fans speculate, even if RDJ and Rephlex play along. When they milk our patience by reissuing and re-packaging existing material it's another story. Doom hasn't delivered the Ghostface collaboration or Madvilliany 2, then throws us a reissue with a neat looking lunchbox and trading cards, to which I go "oh sweet, let me order that sucker...wait, fuck me really!? No new tracks? Doom, you're breaking my balls here."

Anyway the Avalanches also annouced a reissue of Since I Left You with bonus remixes. It was supposed to come out already but now is due early this year  . A Stereolab remix is on soundcloud. As for the second album, another collaboration was annouced. They previewed a mp3 of new stuff in 2007 with no follow up. I don't even want another album really. The first seems more romantic as a beautiful little one-off imo.

Nobody asked, but Carlos Dengler was the semi-famous bassist of Interpol and this is what he does now:

Reissues are generally cheap cash-ins to keep an artist on people's radar when they've got nothing to show for the time that's gone by. At least Doom's got an album coming out on lex with jneiro jarel - JJ Doom - looks like it could be damn good.

But yeah, the avalaches have reached that ridiculous chinese democracy / detox / BoC level of lateness that they should just scrap the whole thing altogether. Do they gig australia ever? I'm always curious as to how missing in action artists support themselves financially if they're not plying their trade.

Good comparison to Chinese Democracy. Doom has still been putting stuff out, it's more about him scrapping or holding off on other projects. Maybe it's some obsessive trademark, he is very concept-minded with his projects.

Opiate/April records

As far as I know April records is till in existance, but hasn't released anything since... 2005?

And Opiate is still doing his thing, live gigs and what not, lately with System (same guys as Future 3, but under a different name).

If you haven't already listened to the record 'B' from System, you are missing out. big time.
