Once you reach OT-VIII you can bend space and time to your will, so presumably they just dematerialise their bodies and rematerialise on the 2nd floor.

Just finsihed watching Going Clear, nothing much I wasn't aware of already after following Scientology for many years now, but it was a pretty good overview and really brought home the massive psychological trauma these fucks are causing, and have been causing for a long time now. It's important the spotlight is kept on them until they're brought to their knees or they'll just slink into the background, keep quite for a few years sitting on piles of their stolen cash waiting for the moment to go on the offensive again. Really makes me angry.

The book is fascinating as well.

Watched Going Clear the other night. The biggest takeaway for me is the amount of money and property they have accrued and how the IRS let them claim tax exempt status when they run their religion as a business.

L Ron Hubbard was such a creep too and Philip Seymour Hoffman did such a great job "portraying him" in The Master.

Going Clear was a great documentary. One thought though, aren't Mark Rathbun and many others in the film independent Scientologists? It would be interesting to explore that as well, as they may have left the business, but are still in the thrall of half baked bullshit.

Louis Theroux has a feature length documentary in the works, Stairway to Heaven. It'll be interesting to see his take, as he oft lets his subjects freely present/perform themselves, rather than explicitly pushing a specific viewpoint.

yeah, Rathbun and a lot of the others (though certainly not all) still belive in most of the shit and think LRH is the best, etc. Their only real problem is with Miscavige AFAIK.

I can't see how Theroux is going to pull that one off in his usual style, which involves him being around the subjects for a good while and getting them to open up, something that's not going to be possible considdering their current strategy of zero engagement with the public. If he's just going to be talking to ex-members, I can't see how he's going to offer anything new.

You might be right, though I think there is the possibility for some access, as they know he isn't aggressive or posturing. I'm sure you'll get some of those lovely awkward silences where he will play the schmo, they'll talk about a Suppressive Person and he'll say "But that doesn't sound very nice, she's your mum"

would be great to see a documentary like this but just all raw footage from inside scientology. The story and information in going clear was excellent, but im kind of tired of the really schlocky old school documentary style of filming these really slomo moody shots to fill in the interview segments. It feels like a 4th tier Errol Morris or something just from an artistic point of view

What gets me about this one is he talks about how embarrassed one feels when realizing youve been wasting all this money. How that embarrassment also keeps people from speaking out. There seems to be genuine shame in his voice at times and its interesting to hear about the moment he stopped and looked around and said "hold on, wait a second"
