Anonymous and others start leaking

the vf article is clearly biased against wl and assange, but i have to lol at the irony of the man's hubris here. you own the information do you, julian? how awful it would be if somebody else obtained and released it.

i've reached the stage now where i believe that WL as an organisation is carrying out some good work - as well as some irrelevant and arguably irresponsible work - but the man himself is a dickhead of the highest order.

I didn't read the whole thread but did anyone present the idea that Assange was a good guy at first but was then offered ... something ... by USA and other goverments to leak stuff that was somehow shocking but still nothing compared to the true shit that is still obscured? That this whole rape accusation and republican manhunt was just an illusion for our eyes? I don't think there is a single country so stupid to humiliate themselves in the newspapers and other media like USA did with Wikileaks, without getting something out of it (and it's not Assange's head, probably just a fake revolution with important files still safely locked).

I mean Assange probably started out as a snobby self-proclaimed messiah with ideas to save the world ... and now "they" made him a new Jesus for the media. Win-win for everybody.

I mean they literary made you choose between conservative view which is "Kill Assange!" and revolutionary view which is "Assange for the king!" Truth is never so black & white.

Ah man I hope I'm the pikachu who's slappin and not the slapped one :D

US subpoenas twitter for details of two wikileaks volunteers accounts

actually the revolutionary view is that assange is a front for the US security apparatus.

if by 'revolutionary', you mean 'alex jones'

alex jones is in the front camp as well, you can't rely on anything that guy puts out, it's all smokescreen.

I am glad that the assange machine is at least helping bring some stuff to light that the media wouldn't normally focus on, it has it's positives. Just don't contact them if you have something sensitive, find another way of distributing it, and as that crank in the video on the other page said, be prepared to get found out, however you go about it.

It appears that Twitter's legal department is fighting a good fight- they had the sealed subpoena unsealed; they disclosed it to @birgittaj

There are many WikiLeaks supporters listed in the US Twitter subpoena.

this is moving really fast.

what does this mean, I don't get it and don't use twitter. summarize pls

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

- lost cloud

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

-organized confused project

the US supoenas a member of the icelandic parliament and wikileaks activist, birgitta jónsdóttir, for her private twitter messages (presumably to assist in building a case against assange)

jónsdóttir contests the subpoena and says yeah come at me bro

twitter opens the sealed subpoena despite the fact they aren't supposed to - and provides the details to her

jónsdóttir makes them available to the rest of wikileaks

the subpoena apparently contains a list of high-profile wikileaks supporters

i think this will prove very divisive and will be a big international relations oops... this isn't a supposedly basement-dwelling hacktivist like assange. this is a respected politician in lovely liberal iceland that they're threatening.

full scan of the subpoena here: http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2011/01/07/twitter/subpoena.pdf

it requests all information pertaining to the twitter accounts of Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, Rop Gongrijp, rop_g (presumably the same person), ioerror, Birgitta Jonsdottir, and birgittaj (jonsdottir again) for the period Nov 9, 2009 to present.

this is unashamed thuggery. there is no other word for it.

wikileaks are saying on twitter that section B of the subpoena will be used to request the twitter IDs of everyone following them. that's possibly a bit hysterical, but still a tad worrying (moreso for residents of the US, i suppose)

I'm enjoying seeing how Wikileaks poses a challenge to hardcore conspiracy theorists. (I'm not sure what your position is Dpek, so I'm thinking more of the Alex Jones brigade here)

The problem for them is: Wikileaks has access to restricted info we've never seen before, and although it shows various types of dodgy behaviour that we all suspected (collusion between goverment and corporation, misleading coverups of milirary ops etc), it doesn't show anything totally hardcode-conspiracy-theory-like like 'shadowy X-files type cabal running everything' or '9-11 was planned by bush' or 'secret plan to micro-chip everyone'.

The people that do believe in 'secret plan to micro-ship everyone' etc then have to make Wikileaks part of the conspiracy. As in 'nothing they have released backs up our point of view' therefore 'they must be part of the conspiracy'.

My life would be so much simpler if I was as intolerant of doubt, nuance and critical thinking as those people.

So... practically, what do you think the govt will do with 650,000 ips and twitter names? Comb them all for large wikileaks retweets, and then go after those users for spreading secret documents?

I don't think so because then the likes of the Guardian, New York Times, Der Spiegel and all other media publications would be chased after

lol

US Govt strategy to prevent leaks, leaked

Strike that, it was not classified. So it was merely published.

keep in mind a very small portion of these leaks have been released so far.

but the Guardian and the other newspapers involved (including Aftposten that have no formal agreement with Wikileaks) have had access to all 250,000 cables for a while. From this we can infer that all the most exciting stuff has already been published. Unless there are a few hard-to-find nuggets of great import that no-one has discovered yet.

for those awaiting the amazing ufo cables, aftenposten has released them over xmas. They report that the Russian military are no longer spending money researching the paranormal and ufo reports. mind blown.
