haha, hilariously, i made a joanna newsom comparison when i was asking for metal recs. because man i cannot STAND some metal vocalists. but i loves me some joanna newsom.

but yeah. NSBM worries me. in fact a lot about the entire genre and the people who perform it worries me, but whatever. i need some brutality in my life and it seems like a good place to go for it.

also i can listen to earth for years

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcLic3qg-90

which is about the length of an average earth song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf648bEndkQ

^^more typically drone metal if you are unfamiliar with earth which you should not be

and of course

a) I think I replaced general depression and ennui with a persistent, omnidirectional anger a few months ago and I needs the br00tal, lately. I'm not sure if it's an improvement or not with respect to my general well-being.

b) Yes to the Earth and yes to the Sunn, and all glory to the hypnotoad.

nothing better then some top class brootality like devourment

Speaking of brutal, I need more Holy Vehm sub-band from Secret Chiefs 3

Time warp to one of my favorite death metal songs ever.

If you play guitar or bass and ever want to just feel evil play the first half of this song right up to when the guitar starts its spazz out. (it's pretty easy technically but the timing is tricky in some places)

Speaking of Incantation - Disma is a recent favourite here. Saw them live in December, heavy as fuck with the purest of pure death metal vibe.

Yea buddy, I might be seeing them in May at a festival but I can't remember if they were on the lineup. I just remember there were like 10 bands I wanted to see at it. Actually I gave my friend my Disma CD so I would stop listening to it for fear of playing it out.

I wonder if anybody here also follows Fenriz of Darkthrone and his band of the week initiative, but he's one of the best music-mentors around these days. I've discovered so many great bands through him (The Devil's Blood, Jex Thoth, Pagan Altar, Obliteration, Nekromantheon, Beastmilk, the list is endless, the money unfortunately isn't).

I followed it since day one with his black metal compilation years ago and then the tips on the Darkthrone myspace and all his other compilations, and I've yet to hear a band of the week that dissapoints me. Don't expect black metal though, maybe some really raw 80's death metal band that is labeled as black metal these days, but most of the bands are in the heavy, thrash and speed style of the 80's. Also, triggered drums are VERBOTEN.

If you want a good impression of this, definitely check these compilations out (he published 12 in total):

The mainpage for this is http://www.bandoftheweek.net/ but the facebook page is updated more frequently.

Yeah, lots of great stuff there! One of my bands was selected band of the week two years ago even, and we played the Live Evil festival (only Fenriz' BOTW bands) the same year.

Apropos your avatar - I saw Virus again last week and it was freaking great.

oh my this thread is full of crappy "music"...

I find it really odd somebody on a music forum, especially an idm one, would resort to saying that.

i'm not just somebody...

Wow, what a coincidence, may I ask which band that is, I am bound to at least heard of you before then. That Live Evil line-up was amazing (so was the last one), that must've been great!

Virus played last week again? Damn, I'm still kicking myself in the head because I realized Virus played here in the Netherlands the day after the gig. Good to see they are performing that much lately, I have to witness them at least once. I did see Aura Noir a few month's ago though, one of the best gigs I saw in years.

Anyone familiar with weedeater or rwake? Dudes stayed at my house the other night, pretty fuckin solid...that is all

Is anyone else as obsessed with the latest Textures album as I am?

'Reaching Home' is probably one of the best melodic metal songs I've heard in a long time. I fucking love these guys, they can do no wrong imo. They might be a little too melodic for fans of more atonal/screamy metal though.
