As far as I know, the 808 kick is made of a sinus wave. The envelope (as Adam Beker said before) makes the difference.

twin t filter+amp set to oscillate at the tuned frequency when triggered

because of the particular way in which it's triggered, the circuit acts as its own envelope;the amplitude decays naturally as part of the filter design. pitch changes slightly too

it aint just a sine wave, there are some harmonics too
