Well, here it is. We'll leave this open for near enough to 2 weeks.

If you want to do the compilation album, please comment what track you want to do. So that other people can see what people have already chosen. If two people want to do the same track I recommend sorting it out between yourselves. If a solution cant be found we'll think of something else.

Im just gonna stick it out there, Im interested in doing Red Hot Car or Dedicated Loop. Im flexible though.

GO!

Very very good idea indeed. Can't decide between a comp or a whole album, so I voted for "Compilation" AND "Ultravisitor" (because of its variety).

Can't even tell if I'll participate to this, cuz I'm a kind of a EKT beginner...So well. I'm able to record some piano cover of Star Time 1 - dunno if this will be interesting.

Looking forward your projects !

I like a compilation more too. Voted for that but also voted FMWT to be safe :sup:

Not set on any certain tracks. It might be interesting to take a track of his I don't like very much and see if I can make a better version

I want to remix "Male Pill Part 13." That track is way under appreciated.

Just to be clear, my understanding is what we would be doing would be more aptly described as covers right? I assumed it would be a rule that we could not sample even a millisecond of Tom Jenkinson's work in our reproductions.

I think the structuring, composition, melodic & rhythmic content should be as close the originals as we can get them without any sampling IMHO that would be the fun of it. The actual sounds used in the songs would be much less constricting & leave room to give the compositions a new fresh take. Give people the IDM based producers an opportunity to push themselves to the limit and reproduce the mad hatter percussion, melodic anomalies & technical demonstrations as faithfully as they can to prove themselves to themselves. While giving the less technical prowess focused producers who believe they can demonstrate a great understanding of texture, simplicity & atmosphere a chance to prove themselves on their favorite less IDM tracks.

That's my 2 cents at least.

That would certainly go along with what I was saying. Staying true to the composition, structuring, melodic & rhythmic content as well as you can but the option to give it a completely different vibe if you want by using your own sounds, playing, sequencing techniques etc. Do a banjo cover of My Red Hot Car as long as your not improvising irrelevant random shit in there.

i think 'improvising random irrelevant shit' could actually be pretty good. expanding on the original idea of the song etc. i think the best covers will be ones that are adventurous, not note-for-note versions of the original songs.

random irrelevant shit is not good, extremely deeply felt adventurous variations are a completely different story all together. Relevancy & class should be highly important in paying respect to the compositions.

zole, sorry i kinda misunderstood you. i thought you were completely against deviating from the melodic content of the songs.

all good!
