Meadows and Labyrinths
we've moved into the beginning of a brand new decade. in your opinion, are there any trends that have run their course? my list: - auto-tune? auto-tune was almost exclusively a 2000-2010 thing, and it was fun; but in my opinion, anyone making music this year with an overly obvious use of "the auto-tune" will be considered out of touch to me. but i'm infamously out of touch myself, so who knows. i can't think of any more, but i had this thread idea at work and all. 2011 threads? seriously. it's almost February. let's get this year on like. Guest
digital exclusives for whole albums and such it's a fucking pain, because I don't want to lose all my stuff when my HDD crashes, because the feel of opening new vinyl or cds is one of the greatest, and because I like to be able to have my stuff DRM free without having to pirate it. for exclusive songs, it's just fucking dickish to give the people buying the hard copy versions the short end of the stick. I realize they're less profitable sometimes, but it always feels like such a cop out. awepittance
kill requests: Reveal hidden contents -Music blog instant hype generation: kill the trend of music blog hype machine feedback loops, where 'established' genres come and go in a period of 6 months and where the new type of exciting 'forward thinking' music is simply regular music with not much innovation compositionally just soaked to shit in lofi or other kinds of effects (sparkly fast arpegios, wow and flutter tape delays up the ying yang, crackly fake vinyl record reecordings, fake tape hiss) oh and the Wire, please stop feeding into these hype machines. I liked your magazine lot better when you had significantly different content from Fact mag and Pitchfork. -Modern videogames banality: start putting creativity & innovation at the forefront of console game design, round up all the people who make first person shooters and have them fight in real combat, then bring them back and see if they still want to make banal FPS war games. I think the last interesting games i saw were Little Big Planet, Mirrors Edge and the Katamari series. -CGI ruiners in most tent pole or big movies: stop using CGI or any type of modern digital special effect in movies when it takes you out of the movie. Someone needs to take a cue from Fincher's Zodiac techniques and stop pulling tools from the George Lucas school. -I love my president fashion statements: please no more T-shirts of Obama on young people, what would you guys think of people walking around with non ironic Palin Or George Bush tshirts? -How many more Lil Wayne remixes do we need to hear? stop remixing top 10 hip hop songs and marketing them to the electronic music community, at least remix a hip hop song we have all forgotten or that deserves to be exposed to more people. and yeah what Kcinsu said Edited January 31, 2011 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/63409-2011-trend-kill-wishlist/#findComment-1506505 Share on other sites
