Long answer: Creating large discs of non-biodegradable, non-recyclable, toxic polyvinyl-chloride so that a bunch of faux audiophiles can pretend that having a record pressed from digital productions/masters actually sounds better because of the inclusion of surface noise and loss of frequency range, only to have them sound progressively worse with each play until 10 years later it's rendered unlistenable. There's nothing more wasteful and excessive in the realm of physical media than vinyl. The only reason it's still clinging to life by a thread is elitist hipsters who want to show off that they have one of 400 pressings of some release, only to later listen to the digital version on their iPods on the bus.
