should there be any sort of quality control? i mean, i know spore and wahrk makes ace music, don't think i've heard anyone elses though.

or do you just let everybody in?

Edited by data

well I'd just guess that it would be pretty open. If someone sucks we can vote them out. :D

Why do you suck? :squarepusher:

If you want in post your gmail address so I can put you on as an editor for the google doc w/ all the artist info. If you hate google then just mail me the info. It's up there ^ somewhere.

Also I was thinking that once we're up and running to try and get it featured on Gamasutra somehow. Tons of indy devs there and I think it could be a great place to start collaborations. Great info anyways...

I'm totally interested as well, I've been looking for freelance work, I'll add info tonight even. I have some recent highly melodic stuff I could cater towards vg music, smallcurd -at- gmail

OK I added you. I'll see if I can get around to making some wireframes this weekend. I might be too lazy though :D

Those wireframes looks sweet! I'm super impressed and stoked after seeing them. I've a couple notes:

-On the artist page, the players will be tracks of that artist, right? The "Artist image + link to profile" is misleading if so.

-Stats are a cool idea for helping prospective clients quickly get an idea for what they want out of a producer and which one(s) of us would suit their project best. We should discuss what those are going to be if we are to have them. The first four are pretty solid IMO. (lol @ krunkness. I'm down for keeping that there too.)

Keep up the good work and let me know if there's any help I can lend.

Thanks! ya those tracks will be from the artist.

I was thinking to have space for like 4 tracks from each person.

What's confusing about the home page? The images would just be links to the individual artist pages. did you think they were music players or something?

I think the stats could be really cool too, but we have to be careful what we choose, as it can frame things as "weak". It could possibly work better, if it were just tags... Then you don't have to say "i'm not good at xxxx". Either that or the words can change from page to page depending on how someone wants to describe themselves.

Also do you think the blog section would be used? Each person could basically post stuff to their page that way, and we can have a few displayed on the home page.

yay!

This would most likely be WAY too much work on my part, but it would be sweet to have an avatar kinda thing for each person.

something like this:

char_create.jpg

Just a character viewer w/ attributes. I don't have time to illustrate it all, but I would love to. Maybe for a 2.0 update...

Could also be more cartoony (since that's how I draw).

Not mine, but a friends work. Would be awesome to rope him into making us all avatars!

and for those of you who missed that, the wireframes are online!

My idea is to have a blog-type thing set up that will allow each person to make status updates, or blog-style posts to keep the profiles updated.

I've also got a great WP plugin that basically reads an RSS feed and posts the entries it finds. This means that we can hook it up to your soundcloud pages and have it auto post there.

Cool!

I just started talking to fella about writing a soundtrack to the game his team is working on. Could i join you guys? and could i recommend a "portfolio/previous work" section. although, maybe that'd be better to just put in the biography section.

here's one of my latest tunes http://thompost.bandcamp.com/track/jo-sin

I love the layout of the wireframes thus far, really great. Clean, well organized, the important things are very apparent and visible. The stats thing is an interesting way for an artist to describe the overall style of their tracks, I like it a lot.

Yes! I think some people w/ realized projects will be a great help in building some credulity. post up your gmail address(if you have one) and I'll put you on the google docs.

Also I was thinking that the profile page would sort of double as a portfolio. It would be blog-style in that you would add projects as posts. I can also sort them using categories, which might help. Like a 'projects', 'tracks' 'article' kinda breakdown. Then we can display them differently to make them more logical to read.

If slightly dried beans or whoever needs help with the site I'm willing to put in a lot of graphic design work.

Ya that would be cool. What kind of design do you specialize in? I'm also a designer and was planning to do it all myself, but I'm always happy with any help. :) Send me a mail @ ryan@tellmesomethingnice.com and we'll see how best to split up the work.

Didn't read the complete thread, always a good intro sentence :) , but whatever happens with the layout of the site, don't implement add's all over the place to pay for it. If people are looking for freelance work they should be willing to invest a small fee for keeping the website online, or maybe this isn't an issue?

Also there are a bunch of sites dedicated to the homebrew / independent game developers and if you look into those forum introduction threads there are tons of musicians spamming links and looking for work (myself included :cisfor:). You'll be lost in a forest of listen to me's, sort a like ekt latest creations ;) .

Most of these really small studio's have everything self contained, the guy that makes the graphics also does the sfx etc, or outsource it to some music licensing bureau or simply don't need the electronic music styles. I think the idea of being a filter, possible source for studio's to search for electronic music talent is a nice idea, but am skeptic about it actually producing work.

I think you have a better shot at work with sites like this, where you can join contests held by paying people:

http://www.audiodraft.com/sourcing/

Good luck,

R

Ads: hell no.

Focus: hell yes.

I'd really like to push people's perception of "electronic" music. Really most game sound tracks are electronic, but in a crappy sound-module kinda way and not in a creative-interesting way. I'd really like to make that a mission statement up front. We'll need to draft up a very good and concise elevator-pitch / call-to-action thing to make our point strongly emphasized. What this point is, however, remains to be discovered. :)

ALSO for anyone interested in participating, we will most likely end up having some kind of yearly dues kind of thing, just to pay for the domain and hosting (unless someone wants to donate that). In the case that we need money it will most likely be very little (like under $10). Promotion of the collective will be mainly left up to the members, as I doubt anyone has time to really push it very hard by themselves.

Yay!

Thats a great idea!

This is exciting! It'd be nice to pimp ourselves out to developers! Maybe we could put an option to ask several composers to collaborate? almost like a tick the box thing? With the artists option to say "No" of course, but say you really liked 3 different artists for 3 different reasons, wouldn't it be nice if you could ask for the opportunity for a collaboration or compilation style soundtrack?

Also, should we maybe do monthly/bi-monthly compilations to send out to developers anyway?

Anyway, I'll be quiet now.

I'm off to spain for a couple of weeks.

Bye bye x

ok cool I added you. Not sure how it works for non-gmail accounts. Let me know.

A multi-contact thing would be really cool. Nice idea. Also a compilation would be ace. I was thinking it would be really cool to actually make a mix like that. a couple of tracks from each person, all mixed like a set. Could be really cool.

Have any of you guys every played around with any game engines? Unity is really cool and has some really nice / easy to use features for audio. I know a ton of developers use it, as there is a free version for indy games. Plus they have a web plugin that will play games. It would be sweet to take a map and place some tracks in there. Then you'd basically have a 3d environment music player. :D

I'll talk with a friend of mine who is developing an indy game. I'm planning to do the sound, but maybe he could help us out with promo somehow too. :)
