[Week1] Live listening club!

Recommended Posts

[The idea: We've had the studio output of Aphex Twin as a listening club but we all know that this is only half the story with RDJ. I propose doing a-few-concerts-a-week, depending on duration, listening club devoted to the best of the live sets commonly available, from this list rdj-live-broadcasts-interviews].... all in chronolgical order.

So lets post our opinions on recording quality, tracklist, sounds style, use of effects, melody, unreleased easter eggs, hidden gems, funny moments, crowd reaction, visual appeal, agressiveness, comparisons to previous/future sets, haircuts, if you were there or not etc etc. If you know the tracklist or have it abvailable, post that too!]

.

Without further ado.... lets all enjoy..

1992-02-04 UK-Leeds-Morley - The Orbit (vinyl bootleg '1992 Tapes')

1992-04-30 Germany-Cologne - Eissporthalle - Mayday Rave

1993-04-24 France-Paris-Le Bourget - Osmoze: source

ok, and to get anal, we can throw in:

1990 - Live in Cornwall, England this is 'Digeridoo' from Classics

1992 - Peel Session (4xtracks) Technically they were performed 'live' or on the spot as I understand it

I think that covers it all from what is widely available  if those are acceptable then the list should look like this:

1990 - Live in Cornwall, England this is 'Digeridoo' from Classics

1992-02-04 UK-Leeds-Morley - The Orbit (vinyl bootleg '1992 Tapes')

1992-04-30 Germany-Cologne - Eissporthalle - Mayday Rave

1993-04-24 France-Paris-Le Bourget - Osmoze: source

1992-05-12 - Peel Session (4xtracks)

1993 - Nasa Circa tracks (3xtracks)

1993 - Live In France (15:42)

1993 - Live at Hardcore in The Ulster Hall (47:09)

1993-04-09 - Live at Hallam University in England, UK

1993-06-11 - Live at 'See The Light' tour in San Fransisco, California

I'm nearly sure this was at a friend party with people not giving a shit because he was nowhere in 90, still in his bedroom, so not sure if you can count it as a proper live with a crowd coming for him

correcting order here, sorry for posting so much. There is also a 20 sec. clip on youtube with some unreleased stuff from 1993, if it's legit:

1993 - Live In France (15:42) is removed because upon further listen it sounds as though it is a clip from the 1993-04-24 France-Paris-Le Bourget - Osmoze show, this being the video on youtube of him playing live

So here goes:

1990 - Live in Cornwall, England this is 'Digeridoo' from Classics (6:21)

1992-02-04 UK-Leeds-Morley - The Orbit (vinyl bootleg '1992 Tapes') (44:15)

1992-04-30 Germany-Cologne - Eissporthalle - Mayday Rave (15:01)

1992-05-12 - Peel Session (4xtracks) (19:26)

1993 - Nasa Circa tracks (3xtracks) (13:56)

1993 - UK-Windsor - Old Trout (only 20 sec. clip from above available)

1993 - Live at Hardcore in The Ulster Hall (47:09)

1993-04-09 - Live at Hallam University in England, UK (19:00)

1993-04-24 France-Paris-Le Bourget - Osmoze (33:49)

1993-06-11 - Live at 'See The Light' tour in San Fransisco, California (~40 min.)

man that 19 sec clip sounds like archive Squarepusher stuff!

Been listening to

1993 - Live at Hardcore in The Ulster Hall (47:09)

1993-04-24 France-Paris-Le Bourget - Osmoze

in the car on the way to from work....

Man he's still fffffresh .... its industrial but the melodies and little live nuances(flange effects) really show a raw talent doing his thing!

I think that linked video is defo france not Dublin!

I was going to post last night, kind of got busy, but i'll throw it in anyways.

I love these sets, what happened to all the good recordings such as these, need more soundboard recordings out there.

First off we hear a Universal Indicator Green track, I would say this pins Richard to most of the Green vinyls, as he was only playing tracks of his own at this time, another awesome upside of everything before 1998 when Richard was doing sets.

He plays Digeridoo alot, it's obvious he knows this is a hit and a banger with his audience, same with Heliosphan and Garden of Linmiri. He plays 'On' a few times, I first hear it in the 1992-02-04 set, a year and a half before he releases it, he does this alot, (in these sets AB4, ICBYD, even Ventolin played in 93') and still does it today, he did it with Analord, Tuss, and hopefully these new tracks he's been playing live recently! RDJ definitely tests some stuff on his crowds.

The last set, very interesting indeed, the opening track is Windowsill, which was unreleased at that time, followed by an unknown track, and then he plays some known material and ends on Shiny Metal Rods, still yet to be released at that time as well, and finishs with two more unreleased tracks. Speaking of unreleased tracks, there is the NASA circuit tracks, where it sounds like he was just messing around making something on the spot, very interesting listen. The Peel session was also a great listen, hearing these tracks performed in this way shows he could do some of these on the spot. As for the 20 second clip, would love to hear that entire show, more unreleased Aphex.
