don't get me wrong... i'm not saying they're not insualar and dodgy as far as outsiders go, cos they are, but they have very good reason to be.

what is this reason?

only centuries of persecution.

but don't you think they bring this on themselves to some extent? opting out of society, taking all they can from it while giving nothing in return.

pikeys would come to our town a few times each year

when they left there'd be rubbish and bags of human shit EVERYWHERE.

...

They also left carrier-bags full of human shit

If that's not giving something in return I don't know what is

mate there's proper rom all over the uk. and tinks and pikeys and didikoi.

Yes I wasn't saying there weren't real gypsies in the UK, I was just stating that they're different from the travelers type because americans tend to glamorize the gypsy lifestyle after watching that movie with Brad Pitt where he plays a gypo.

Some people used to live next to the dump near my folks place, they came in caravans and stayed a few months and left a mess and everybody blamed them for any burglaries during that time and they looked dirty and aggressive. As far as I could tell apart from the mess they left they didn't bother anyone and I thought the suggestion that they were theives was probably unfounded

Ciganos, it's how we call them over here, and they look more like Indian descendants than Romany, don't ask me why...

i used to be friends with 2 gypsies when i was about 10, they lived in some abandoned buildings right in front of my own, apart from the fact that they always stink like burning wood, they were pretty alright i guess, even my mom liked them and even let them come to our home to play.

because that's where they originate, based on their genetics and their language.

you said they weren't actually gypsies

I said travelers aren't gypsies, just because the English call everyone a gypsy doesn't make it a universal designation. Roma and all the sub-groups are the only gypsies.

You shouldn't really put the roma and gypsies in the same bag with the travelers/caravan people in the UK, those aren't actually gypsies.

so you were saying that the travellers in the uk weren't actually gypsies, and not that the gypsies actually weren't gypsies.

got ya.

had plenty of run ins with gypsies when i was down in Essex. Dale Farm was one of the largest gyspy sites in the UK and featured on My Big Fat Gyspy Wedding. We saw loads of them out and about, riding their horses down dual-carriage ways, going crazy in the hospital while they got their free health care etc etc. Absolute nightmare. I have absolutely no time for them, they're thieving tax-dodging scum but there's little that can be done.

However my favourite gypsy is:

Linguistic and genetic evidence indicates the Romanies originated from the Indian subcontinent, emigrating from India towards the northwest no earlier than the 11th century. The Romani are generally believed to have originated in central India, possibly in the modern Indian state of Rajasthan, migrating to northwest India (the Punjab region) around 250 BC

none of y'all have it as bad as we have it here, gypsy-infestation wise. also, most of those fucking up your respective countries came from here.

i formally apologize for my people's failure to systematically euthanise these bipedal pests. the only historical head of state who ever had the balls to attempt to holocaust this dirt off the face off of our country was also a fascist and a teensy bit batshit crazy...

so that didn't work out... then they somehow survived communism, and now we have to be democratic and PC and nice and all and let them have their incest communities and KINGS and mafia and we legally have to call them "rromi". they also take welfare but don't pay taxes, breed incessantly, have absolutely no respect for laws, mores, human life, there are neighborhoods were its scary to go because of them, and they've single-handedly created and perpetuated the worst music genre on earth.

it should be noted that indians are a wonderful people and have very little in common with the modern gyppo. it's not very comprehensively documented, but it would seem the the gypsies that settled in Eastern Europe are the most savvy and survivalist offshoot of exiled slave/criminal castes from India. Being that the caste system was, in that time, involuntarily an eugenic segregation framework, one may conclude that the modern gypsy is genetically inclined to be socially parasitic/sociopathic. beyond regular stereotyping and summary observation, it has been empirically proven, locally at least, that as little as 0.1% of the gypsy population is deferent to the system, at least in broad terms (i.e. somewhat holding a job, which means nothing really when his job is "scam taxi driver").

Hahah. Very true mate. About 8 years ago me and my friends were having a beer in Windsor (big castle, Queen etc). All of us were coked up to the eyeballs and well on our way to a fine summer evening of mayhem and beer. We got talking to this young American bloke (about 22 years old) as he was sat by himself in this pub garden with half a pint of lager lol and a Lonely Planet guide. Anyway he was over the pond as he was working at the Wimbledon tennis championship, we started having a laugh with him. After a while he started going on about his mission was to find a tribe of Pikeys like the ones in the film Snatch, live with them, learn their ways and understand their culture. Fucking What?! We all choked on our beer and told him that his romantic notion of pikeys was fiction. He sort of thought they were like ancient, wise race of....summat or other, you know what I am getting at.

The irony of the situation is that he ended up back at our local pub, snorting cocaine for the first time, then dropping his first E (followed by a few more) and then going to some rave in god knows where! Apparantly last time he was was seen he thought he was being chased by aliens and was collapsed in a bush covered in mud. None of this I witnessed as I gave the rave a miss and went home after the pub. But I have it on good authority.

So in the end the poor American would of been better off with the Pikeys lol. Madness.

We live by a specific set of rules and beliefs and customs.Whats so fucking shocking about a race of people having their own set of rules or customs?Grabbing has always been part of the traveller culture,to make ones intentions known, its like an engagement ring,an arranged marriage,a promise.Like most of you have said, you've all had little or nothing to do with Irish travellers,Roma or British Gypsies. The relatively new fad of ostentatious shows of wealth on whats supposed to be the best day of a young girls life has been seized by the British public and although it makes for entertaining viewing for some people, its also doing a fabulous job of demonizing the travelling community.

Heres a race of people affected by rapidly expanding laws that put paid to their preferred lifestyles, persecuted historically for centuries,misunderstood,ridiculed,hated,humiliated...is it any wonder these people are fucking insular?

Im not saying theres no villains amongst them but isnt there in every group of people?

Watch ...Gypsy Wedding for the spectacle, but know that theres a whole rich& colourful tapestry behind the different branches of traveller culture, and its not all about bare knuckle fights, bags of moody cash and ridiculously sized wedding frocks.

yes, let's keep bullfighting, female genital cutting and stoning to death part of our rules and customs

Thread lives a pretty sour taste, that program is fucking hilarious but it seems incredibly damaging and borderline racist. You wouldn't be able to make a program of that nature cut in such a agenda based way about any other ethnic minority.

it's fake, probably worse though.
