Awesome. Wish the vinyl wasn't so expensive - not paying £30 for something I have no clue about.

What the hell is a newspaper album tho?

I like all their recent releases so I am totally ok with buying it without previews.

exactly. as a fairly recent convert to vinyl, im thinking about giving it up. every fucking release nowadays has to be limited edition quadrafuck-quality 675 gram holographic glossy bullshit...its like trading cards back when I was ten. just release a decently priced record for fucks sake.

kompakt is pretty much the only record label i buy vinyl from anymore because its so ridiculously overpriced.

they always make great artwork and music, maybe gonna purchase this, but I'd rather hear some tracks first.

agree with people saying it's really expensive yeah

In Rainbows was released as 'pay what you want' download & expensive nice looking box set (images of box set).

the album was then later released in stores through XL. this included regular CD and vinyl versions of the album.

if In Rainbows is anything to go by, and you only want the vinyl release without the box set, then maybe just be patient for a later release?

im not throwing my vitriol at Radiohead alone, it seems to be a conscious decision amongst anyone who still sees records as a valid medium...just decorate it up and charge out the ass for it because its guaranteed to be a collectors item.

i thought the vinyl fetishism was more about the better quality of the music/the crackle, versus the increasingly over the top and overpriced art design.

EDIT: just to be clear and pre-emptively defend against idiots, i dont hate Radiohead, and I will most likely purchase the mp3/wavs.

they have always released special editions, at least since kid a. the last 2 just included vinyl as well as cd, I don't think it's anything more than that.

so is there gonna be a regular retail cd release?

i don't think it's been announced but i'm going to say yes of course there will be, just like there was for in rainbows and for NIN's the slip, etc. i'm sure there'll be a non-premium vinyl version too. it just makes sense that they would do that.

it's brilliant doing it this way, really. big fans who follow the news and are eager will pre-order mp3s. collectors, fetishists, and super fans will buy extravagantly-priced boxes. a large portion of leak-vultures will actually pay for the mp3s instead of just waiting and downloading illegally, because (and i'm guilty too) lots of people who feel good about paying money for music just want the ease and instant gratification, and then neglect to pay when they can. and people who are casually interested will eventually buy the retail CD whenever it happens to show up on shelves and be like "oh, new radiohead? cool!"

everyone gets what they want and everyone pays.

hehe awesome. That will make some nice artwork

I'm going to wait for the standard CD edition I think as, a) I'm skint, b) I really regret buying that In Rainbows thing as it sits away from my normal CD collection and inevitably gets played less because of it.

You probably look rather perplexed as well.

I was assuming it will be newsprint, I think that will be good. I am a huge Radiohead fan but I tend to buy their special editions because of Stanley Donwood more than for the music. I was a little let down by In Rainbows because the artwork wasn't too special. Amnesiac came as a little book full of amazing pictures, I liked that. I'd rather splash out for a visual spectacle than for expensive high quality vinyl, but that's just me, I can see why people would want it more for the music.

I love his artwork, the hidden booklet in Kid A and the book edition are shit-hot.

Just as I was drifting back into a Radiohead listening phase too, timing timing it's all in the stars. My lucky stars.

wicked wicked looking forward.
