does not get enough love; thanks for trying to average it out a bit

1. Outh9x - This track is very powerful for me. I'm surprised by how much I like it, given that it's 3-4 simple patterns repeating with variation in tone, but that major 3rd in the bass-line is so fucking awesome, and manages to single-handedly make this my all time favourite autechre track.

2. O=0 - The fucking counterpoint!! Enough said.

3. Theme of Sudden Roundabout - I really like those tracks that slowly make sense as they go, filling in the gaps. It sounds incredibly random, and as it adds layers you realize it was structured all along. I associate this track with "The Exploding Psychology" by Squarepusher and "Tropical Metal" by Jackson and His Computer Band. You have to hear the end to really understand the beginning.

4. Perlence range 3 - This is the perfect Perlence track for me. The pacing is what I like about this track so much. I also really love how unusual the rhythms of the melody and the drums are, and how they fight each other, but that goes for all the perlence tracks I guess.

5. Simmm - It sounds beautiful, it's got a great overarching composition, and it's all done with a very limited instrumentation.

6. Treale - What can I say, it's fucking epic.

7. Etchogon-S - This has grown on me as one of the best album openers of all time (not just of autechre). It's simple and out of this world. It showcases autechre's ability to completely blow your mind with very little. I love the little "plink" that announces what kind of album Move of Ten is going to be. It reminds me of the electric guitar noise that opens "Bringing It All Back Home" by Bob Dylan.

8. pt2ph8 - Not much to say for this one. It's just pretty.

9. Drone - This is mesmerizing. I can't let this track play without giving it my full attention.

10. Dropp - I gotta mention this one, because it was the track that got me into autechre.

11. Augmatic Disport - I like to listen to this track while running. It has a way of sounding exhausted, but determined to keep going.

I gotta give honourable mentions to The PlclCpC, Sublimit, and Drane2. The PlclCpC is similar to Perlence range 3, in that it has amazing pacing. Sublimit and Drane2 are so good I often have to listen to them twice in a row.

Good thread.

Erm...

Milk DX: Once the vocals(?) come in it's pure, opiated, forget-you-inhabit-a-body-of-flesh-and-blood bliss.

Cfern: Like a twitching corridor of meat populated by weevils and lice.

IO (mons): Does that neat, turns-itself-inside-out-in-a-funky-way thing for a very long and very satisfying time.

Cap IV: ABSOLUTELY STUNNING/BREATHTAKING (I want to say so much more about this track but it leaves me frustratingly speechless).

Tewe: Makes me think of those millipede creatures with human arms & legs drawn by Escher.

Netlon Sentinel: Has that winning AE formula: the feeling that something, somewhere isn't quite right....and a huge joy that this is so. Sinister melody, beats of multiple BPMs stacked on top of each other. Could also be an Escher creature.

Ipacial Section: A robot version of the mother from Requiem for a Dream paces around her flat and does worrisome things with her hands.

Bronchus 2: Maybe it's the mushrooms talking but this, to me, will never fail to sound completely alien and other.

Stepreo: Some disgusting individual making music with the mucus in his sinuses and eustachian tubes.

Etchogon-S: The most exciting of the newest AE tracks, more seemingly-ragged-but-actually-diamond-hard-precision please!

Xylin Room: First AE track I ever heard. I'd been into Aphex & squarepusher for a few years (in my teens) but hadn't got round to checking out the third in the holy trinity (as I thought of them all) of Warp artists. Bought Draft as it had just been released and was the only thing I recognised in the tiny record shop in Somerset. I had just moved there from London and was sampling alot of the local weed and shrooms. For me it's their most epic and visual track.

Honourable mention to LP5 but it seems I've always listened to it as a whole album and can't find anything to say about individual tracks.

This is by no means a ranking, as I love so much of their shit but here are some songs that have resonated with me and a bit about why for each. Do note that these are only tracks from their full lengths. My thoughts on EP songs will come some time later.

Rettic AC: Who, among the fans of Chiastic Slide, does not love this little interlude? Digital snow underfoot, etc.

Parhelic Triangle: This one's built around a really solid, crunchily textured, loop with slightly changing melody behind it. These two songs are excellent demonstrations of Autechre's amazing sense of timbre.

Pen Expers: It largely speaks for itself, but this song is the definition of a grower for some. It can seem intimidating for awhile but the more times you listen to it, the more that melody that tries to squeeze out becomes catchy.

Uviol: So gentle and calming, yet so dense. I also fucking love those "robotic snoring" noises I hear in it.

Xylin Room: Digital modem-y noises and beautiful clanging noises and nice percussion, too. Great way to open an album.

Surripere: One of the greatest ways to spend eleven and a half minutes.

P.:NTIL: Can't quite put it into words other than to say, this song is a good example of the sonic palette that seems to continue throughout Draft 7.30

V-PROC: (Damn you Joyrex, why can't I put a hyphen in my username?!) Glitchy and hip hoppy.. something great about the sounds after the notes' initial attacks.

Reniform Puls: Man, oh man, I love the rhythm on this. Also sounds amazing loud. Those kicks are so great. I've always seen this as similar in a way to Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by Aphex Twin.

Under BOAC: This song more than just hints at future greatness. Fans wonder to this day, "Is it washable?"

The Plc: A great example of Autechre's toying around with overlapping sounds at varying speeds does some other great stuff too.

IO: That melody just feels like it's hopping around. I am also a total sucker for effected, indecipherable vocals. Great stuff.

plyPhon: Stop/start timing galore, but to some kinda rhythm that only really seems to make sense to Autechre.

Simmm: I love how densely packed this is and how all the different elements seem to bounce off eachother and then for the last 23 seconds, it is calm and blissful.

rale: This song has a very ominous atmosphere with some really squelchy texture.

Fol3: The one song I've heard by Autechre that feels more like a sound art installation than an actual song.

LCC: Spastic in a fun way and the first song by Autechre I ever heard, if I remember correctly. Another great album opener.

Pro Radii: What a great song. Feels like it is way less than 8:42, always been one of my favourite Autechre songs and whenever the vocal sample says "Break." I need to join in with it.

Ipacial Section: Like Pro Radii, a great example of overlapping percussion patterns that lead to a great song.

Sublimit: Can't always make it through this one but when in the mood, this 16-minuter is great fun.

ELEVEN

Oh I like Warp Records! That is My favorite autecray song!! autecrayon is on Aphex Records-my favorite level- but I also like DRUM AND BASS MUSIC. It has a good beat i think! richard makes a lot of drum and bass music, he used to be in a band with the winstons, people sampled his song a lot.

so if you dont mind me asking WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AUTECRA SONG? I only know that one song so i would like to find more so i can put it on my dell mp3 player.

Hi, I used garagebanD to make all sounds :) I used synth sounds and hiphop beat! :)

1. cfern (this will always be my numba 1, just the feeling i get from it every time i hear it, the rhythm is intoxicating, the way it builds, the chords, the ending kind of sucks but it just reminds us we need to let the machines warm down before turning them off.)

2. io(mons) (fucking dirty glitching love every stutter and pop and the vocal synths)

3. 6IE.CR (love everything about this song, and then the feel good melody that carries out the rest of the song is one of the best melodies in autechre history)

4. Surripere (love every second of this long ass track, starts off strong, changes a ton over the course, but still manages to retain the same vibe)

5. fermium (fun track thought i'd throw it in here)

5. rae (love this track)

6. arch carrier (another gem on the overly solid LP5)

7. stop look listen (sounds like it could have been the best track on LP5, very melodically mature)

8. Clipper (fucking love the bassy pulse lead, just gives me chills)

9. Eutow (popular track for a good reason, every part just comes together perfectly, it's almost like a round, love the electo beat)

10. Gantz graf

11. one of those other songs off gantz graf

Sorry for obnoxious media post; I literally had to prune at work on youtube to secure a list for this particular mood/day.

Latent Quarter is awesome. Envane is perfect. I was just going to post Envane 2.75 times to appease you, but I thought against it, because of Satan.

now i'm looking at my list and thinking Y U NO HAVE ANY CONFIELD?

too difficult.

I wish I had included some Oversteps or Move of Ten but it's really hard narrowing it all down.

Rale

Tankakern (So psychedelic)

M62

Bine

Parhelic Triangle (Tied with Bine)

Gelk

Iera

Perlence Subrange 6-36 (Homework Autechre)

Corc

Xylin Room

St Epreo

:sorcerer:

1 Pro Radii - It absorbs me and pulls me in, feels like it can alter your consciousness for its duration. Like no other track, in the dark when you listen intently, it's so dense and unreal it's like plunging into the very dark depths of another world. The best compliment you can pay something is; I can't believe it exists. I find it that extraordinary and special.

2 Rae - I agree with Kaini, most saddest and bittersweet piece of music. When I listen to it, I can picture flying over snowy mountains.

3 Vose In - pulsating and really moving

4 Calbruc - brash with a beauty to it

5 Parhelic Triangle - sounds like something transforming, the way the bell sounds are used to drive the track is pretty unreal and magical.

6 Vi Scose Poise - spacious and beautiful

7 Pir - really beautiful, and if it didn't have the aquatic squashing sounds it might be almost too sweet. Autechre can do something like this and not sound trite and contrived. Like it just came from nowhere. It's unlike anything else on EP7. Sometimes listening to music can feel like being bombarded by stuff and it feels heavy on me. Like Draun Qaurter, listening to this feels like being replenished, cleansed. It's very white and clean. It's one of the reasons I keep returning to electronic music.

8 Iera - nasty and alien, comes alive in the dark

9 Acroyear II - the most fun and awesome ae, it just sounds like they were excited by it when they were making it.

10 Rale - cold and funky, a kind of self contained short track that doesn't need to be expanded into something more and which works best on its own, there aren't many of these in Autechre's discography. I think of it like I do Aphex Twin's bbydhyonchord.

11 Cipater - one of the first Autechre tracks I remember listening to. I loved the crunch, bass, how sweet and funky it is. I had to hear everything they'd ever done afterwards.
