Mach is the kernel developed to replace the older kernel in BSD variants of UNIX. However I'm not a CS guy, so I only have a rudimentary understanding of this whole thing. Lots of handset developers probably designed their user interfaces off the iOS user interface though....it's intuitive and easy to understand.
