Explain Lord of the Rings to me pls

Recommended Posts

Guest El_Chemso

I watched LOTR the whole thing as they came out, didn't get it an didn't like it. But we have started watching it again this past week. Just finished watching part 1 and would like some uber geeks to explain a few bits to me.

Why does the ring not effect Billbo or Frodo the same as other people?

Are elves like the master race?

Why has man become so lowly?

What was the deal with the white lady in the forest?

TIA!

You know, there are easier ways to get banned...

What ruined Lord of the Rings for me: At the end, Frodo is rescued from the erupting volcano by eagles. So....why didn't the eagles just carry Frodo and the ring to Mount Doom and drop it in from the top in the first place? So much for fantastical wisdom.

short answer: thinly disguised metaphor for the industrial revolution/naive longing for the days of ye merry olde englande.

this is quite interesting, and definitely 100x better than most horrible fan-fic.

For whatever reason they are chosen or empowered to be able to resist it. The hobbits aren't supposed to have the same ambitions for power or anything that other races do though.

but it is like a metaphor or commentary on how man is the one who is most easily corrupted to evil. Also the nine wraiths were once kings that were seduced by sauron and his bling.

lies, it's a metaphor for encroaching Islamic fundamentalism and immigration to beautiful Europe of hordes of dirty brown Mohammedans from the East!

As far as I know, it's supposed to be a really clear metaphor for WWI, same with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

well, the whole narnia thing is a thinly disguised new testament/omg jesus analogy.

but CS Lewis could be pretty cool all the same; the screwtape letters is a wickedly good and funny read.

Yeah, but I thought it was basically supposed to be Jesus-infused "WWI: FOR KIDS!" or something.

hobbits are simple country folk and not as greedy.

Are elves like the master race?

yeah, sort of.

Why has man become so lowly?

dunno. greed probably.

What was the deal with the white lady in the forest?

she's the queen of the elves. the scene where she freaks out shows that the ring is so powerful it even affects someome as good-hearted as her.

TIA!
