I had a post somewhere predicting this exact revelation about a year after the album but I can't be arsed to find it. awepittance
OVersteps and Moves of Ten still don't really do it for me. I don't have much else to say i just wish i could experience the same feelings of joy from it like the rest of watmm. Treale & Etchogon-S are excellent tracks though that are very memorable to me. Food
I'm still constantly jammin' quaristice + EPs, and untilted way more than oversteps+mot so give me another year. That said I do randomly get ilanders stuck in my head and hum it all day, and then I have to go listen to it. And see on see treale, qplay, r ess, yuop are all great + those ones with loose drums and scifi synths low in the mix. As is track 1 on mot, and that funky one. and the last track. and y7 and m62 and iris. I like oversteps+mot heaps (and did from the start) but just don't listen to them as much as quaristice and untilted (and these were sloow burners for me, I particularly disliked quaristice for about a year). my only gripe is pce freeze - that has to be a joke. so terrible. easily my most disliked track from tri rep onwards. Guest bigs
i dunno... to me, untilted is their masterpiece. it seems like they got less ambitious with their composition and settled into something that seemed inherently normal for oversteps. move of ten is better in this regard, but still lacking, imo. Guest sirch
just wanna add to that that i still think autechre are brilliant electronic artists and i'm not hating but i just don't really feel their recent releases as much as i feel their older stuff. just my opinion. they're still an awesome duo. one of the best. Guest Sprigg
Oversteps is tied with Tri Rep for my favourite Ae release. O=0, Treale, pt2ph8->osveix3... beautiful stuff. I prefer the beated Redfall remix that someone posted here to the regular version and I skip known(1) usually as it ruins the vibe, but otherwise it's damn near perfect. MoT, I don't like so much. Etchegon-S makes me wish I didn't have ears. The rest of the album is okay. Better than the average electronic music, but the only tracks that grab me are rew1, Iris and M62. The rest is only sub-par. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/65391-oversteps/page/2/#findComment-1561693 Share on other sites
Guest absolurde
In my opinion, oversteps is like they electronically digest all the stuff of Rameau and Debussy. I would love to listen an interpretation of that work with Francesco Tristano on harpsichord and Nicola Moneta on octobass... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDsOFR4XVwk&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thVVdBI6tlQ (and MoT is like a compilation of what they did during the tour, that I listen more often, yep. So many watmmers called for a live recording, for me they did it a little!) elusive4
the highed acid squelch seems thicker in y7 vs traele...a little flat on trael so i wonder if they refined it as time went on or if it's meant to be different and im drawing useless correlation between the two god damn y7 is the shit so crystal clear Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/65391-oversteps/page/2/#findComment-1561824 Share on other sites
Guest Chogg
Most of the tracks on move of ten still sound unfinished to me (unfinished is nicer than saying half-assed). It's like a sketch album. The thin, spiral version of the oversteps circle is maybe intended to reflect this? (Whereas oversteps is dark and dense and continues to reveal new layers with more listening time put in [stock ae fanboy comment].) Cep PuiqMX is a huge exception to this, in my opinion. This is the kind of Ae track I've been wanting to hear for years: huge epic synth swells with complex twisted drum patterns. I wish it were a bit longer. More of this stuff plz. Guest Seginustemple
I'll never be on board with D-sho Qub but otherwise Oversteps is one of their best works. It's very ornamented and holds nothing back, sometimes to a fault (see on see's cascading stack of reverb effect can wear you down) but mostly to successful experiments. os veix3, 0=o, redfall, r ess, qplay, and krYlon showcase several gorgeous slices of wandering computer songbirdeering while st epreo, ilanders, treale, and Yuop offer up a subdued, darker side that keeps it grounded Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/65391-oversteps/page/2/#findComment-1632799 Share on other sites
Guest Balance
I listened to Oversteps far too much in a short period of time so I've not heard it for months, but it's one of their best. I only skip D sho qub, it's horrible. MoT is great too, I wouldn't mind more of these two album's style tracks, but their next album will probably be much different. I wonder when their next one is? Soon hopefully! A Triple CD album and a double CD EP. Fuck trimming stuff down just release it all and we can trim ourselves. Sam
There's parts of the album i absolutely love, parts i'm slightly indifferent to, and parts that annoy me. I don't know if i'd feel that it has a smooth flow to it or not. Ilanders, Os veix3, and See on see are the winners for me. Soloman Tump
I have some Numark TT-100s that allows +/- 20% and you can also run at 78rpm and in reverse. Very versatile, but a bit worn now (12 years old). Good fun. If you're afraid of digital for some reason, get a reel to reel or a 4-track with multiple motor speeds (e.g. Tascam 424). Or you could modify the motor in your turntable like Sean Booth did to his.
