One of the most heartbreakingly beautiful things I've ever heard on an N64 any games system:

I remember the first time playing the game just leaving it to loop until the countdown finished

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

It might just be childhood nostalgia talking, but for me some of the ambient tracks in old Zelda games (particularly Deku Tree/Forest Temple from OOT) beat out most other ambient music I've heard. I'm amazed at how much atmosphere is created with what at times sound like really cheap 90s midi instruments.

Funny that you all mention that. I was actually thinking of making a thread a few weeks ago about how SAW II the Forest Temple and Great Deku sound. I always feel like the melody in the forest temple song is similar to one in SAW II as well but I can never figure out which one it reminds me of. Except of course, the ambiance of it kind of reminds me of Parallel stripes.

I loveeeed Ocarina Of Time so much !! Those ambient songs are wonderful but my favourite theme off this game has to be the Gerudo's one !

And yeah the Majora's Mask "final countdown" music is really really beautiful.

EDIT : I forgot the "Observatory" theme in MM. IT ALMOST MADE ME CRYYY.

Majora's Mask was so f***ing mindblowing !

To me it does sound like Koji Kondo might have been influenced by SAWII when making the dungeon music. But in a good way, not the "rippin off Aphex Twin" way.

for anybody that loves the Zelda OOT soundtrack, a group called ZREO has orchestrated the entire soundtrack and has it up for download for free. http://www.zreomusic.com/z5

looks like they've done a bunch of other zelda games too, but i've only heard OOT. some of the ambient pieces are really nice paul-stretch fodder if you need something soothing to drift off with

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
HAMLET: no
GHOST: why
HAMLET: fuck you is why
im going to the cemetery to touch skulls

edit: didn't listen to it, sounds weird, not how it should.

The original Arkanoid (arcade) theme was magic - one of my favourite things about the game:

What I would like to hear is a Koji Kondo independent album. Higher end synths (he could probably also wrangle an orchestra up easily enough if he wanted to), no limits on track length, no having to make tracks loop or act as background music. Could be pretty good I think, considering he's responsible for one of the most widely known melodies of the last 30 years.

Since we've been leaving the low bits more and more, I'd like to say that my favorite VGM of all time, and one of the most influential things in my whole life, is Morrowind. I swear to god, it changed my life when it came out, as weird as that is.

wow, this thread brings back a lot of memories.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Little Nemo, which is up there with the Megaman series in the music quality department. Skip to 5:50 to hear one of the most well-composed songs in a video game.

It was made by Capcom, who licensed the character from a 1930's comic strip. It was a good platformer for it's time.

Always loved this one. But waiting 2 minutes for it to end before playing the game was quite long.

The "electronic" ending blow me away every time :nyan:

I'd like to see Koji Kondo perform live on this:

megaman 2 @ 6:10 min mark!
