but sometimes i wish you would listen more to your fans

Absolutely not. If he were to listen to the vast majority of his fans, he would exactly only be doing danceable remixes of big artists. That would be extremely boring and we'd never hear his full potential.

Artists are to listen to themselves, not fans.

On the other hand, he has to be able to take comments from people on the internet without freaking out.

Conclusion: (us) Danes are bitches. So it seems.

'If you don't have anything intelligent to say don't say nothing at all'.

Your friend could learn a thing or two from that quote. And like someome else said, it's his group so he can say and do whatever he wants to.

Nope - but there are many ways of doing so.

Your friend had a right to say what he said.

but not on his group page where Trentemoller has close friends and family on his group page. It's like, Trent had a little record release party at a bar and is surrounded by his close friends, family and fans then your friend comes along with a drink in hand and tells Trent what what he thinks in front of everyone. That's not a cool thing to do.

I'm not a massive Trentemoller fan but I did like the mix of different styles on his last tour.

Maybe he doesn't want to do another all electronic album as it would either sound too much like his previous work or he thinks he's done as much as he can do with it and want to peruse another direction and I think he has the musical talent to pull it kinda like Squaerpusher's Just a Souvenir which isn't something I'd listen to as much as his old stuff but is a damn fine album in its own right and something I like to sneak on around mates who aren't really into electronic stuff at all.

Bitching about a personal taste of what you think a successful artists should be doing on his personal FB page in front of his friends, fans, record company, agents, promoters ect is the act of a dickhead imho. Just say this albums not for me but I'm not ruling out liking something else in future and leave it at that.

That reminds me I must dig out the Manchester gig I recorded!

not that i have any opinion of Trentmoller, because i literally do not, this is the first time i've heard the name, but if you use facebook to spam in mass as people here have described him doing (inviting you to 20 events in one month and then reminding you every day to attend) this kind of activity seems to be that of someone who doesn't use facebook for personal or family business. If he does he's frankly an idiot for doing both at the same time, it's pretty much waiting for a freight train of embarrassment to hit you because at some point if you spam to annoying degree people will call you out on it, and if your friends and family happen to be there watching when it happens its no one's fault but your own. I'm not saying o00o's buddy approached it in the best way either, but it seems like the spamming indirectly riled him up to the point of leaving a negative comment, which is understandable.

+1

it's more akin to having a launch party in a big nightclub, and being surprised when a drunk guy comes up and speaks his mind.

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

exactly, which happens a lot more often than people might realize, especially to really big musicians who make themselves 'available' to fans after gigs and the like.

Just to make it clear: it was his official fan page on Facebook with over 140.000 fans not a personal account so it's pretty unlikely that he was embarrassed in front of his family

I kind of want to smack anyone who ever says this. As soon as an artist starts turning to their fans for direction they've lost whatever creative integrity they may have had. If I read a comment like that and I were in a bad mood, I'd probably delete him without hesitation. Criticism's fine, but once someone pulls the "listen to your fans" card it's a different story. That's the worst advice you can give any artist.

Awepetance is making perfect sense about the excessive facebook spamming. I have Hidden or Deleted certain People/Band/Groups that blindly spam. Like a friend of mine who uses the "invite" feature to spam his Hip Hop mixes. Which it isn't a bad thing to do mind you, but he does this about 2 to 3 times a week. I had to delete him because that was all he was doing. never once responding to anyone and what not.

I will admit that I'm guilty of using the "invite" feature for a new release on my label. But there are 3 of us that run the label and most of our fans are friends/fans of each of us, so I don't think 2wice about offending someone who doesn't like the spamming. But we only do it everytime we release something new or have a show, which at this point is not all the time. The only time we remind someone about a show is through our label/blog site.

That would be some pretty boring dancing (from the quick youtube scan i just did).

Also, who the fuck wants artists or any non-connected individuals on your facebook. It's not like you can find out about new releases and shows and such, via other updating media.

+ in support of oo00oo, if you have one dissenting opinion in a crowd and it's not trolling. Who cares. I'd see a facebook account like that, more as a forum for fans. So you have to be kind and let a diversity of opinion be expressed.

Still though, I wouldn't bother writing that negativity. Cause yeah, i've also converted to the 'If you can't say anything nice..' brigade (for the most part).

Listen to your fans...hahahaha. The minute someone tells me they're a "fan" instead of just introducing themselves as someone who likes what I'm doing, my stomach turns a little bit, and I start smiling superficially to hopefully not "offend" them.

This is exactly why artists should at all costs avoid listening to such people.

That's the first time i think that i've heard the lad speak. Well except for that MTV interview thing that got posted years ago, which that youtube linked through to, which jogged my memory about it.

Also was that a watmm diss by the camera man, i couldn't make out the context. Seemed to be a comment on the chap with the long hair who stumbled in. Too sleepy to bother checking.

he should try and kick trentmøller's sorry ass into the next dimension.
