Is there another album in this world anything like SAW 85-92?

Recommended Posts

Thank you for all of the replies everyone! Diggin all of this stuff!!!

And I may just have to do that, ZoeB... It would be my first electronic music but I could probably whip out something cool considering that the main genre of music I write is ambient (using guitar with LOTS of effects/modulation).

Well I was searching for the Likemind record comps and found absolutely nothing (other than low quality youtube tracks)... Unobtainable?

I've been looking for the longest time only to come up short. If Richard is good at one thing, it's having a new sound for each release... Too bad he hasn't made anything like this one.

So I'm basically looking for other artists with something similar-ish to it... For me SAW 85-92 is the only album with the true essence of ambient techno, and I'd love to be proven wrong.

i'm sorry but you're right

Simon Posford - Sphongle and Hallucinogen.

Erm.. It is goa.

I forgot bochum welt indeed

Millsart Yantra should fit

Why is considered "aphex-ish" an ether track which contains echo'd porta synth lines and a pad.. !? I'll never understand that, this is completely different, it is "idm"

When Richard dies, I hope he's nice enough to release all of his finished tracks so that we can hear all of those sweet, sweet SAW85-92 & SAWII rejects :whistling:

I can't wait!!!

*gets an idea*

I over-played the album over the last couple of years, just listened to it last night after a long break, and daaaaaamn it's STILL fucking good.

'd add this to the list of early 90's ambient techno it's a nice release

Wait, Keiichi Suzuki? As in Earthbound Keiichi Suzuki? I need to look into this.

Has there really only been one mention of Bochum Welt?

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Is it me, or is Bochum Welt generally ripping off paying homage to Aphex Twin's style while being better at producing? I can get behind that. ^.^

Hmm one similar album would be hard to find I don't know any tbh, you'll rather find some tracks over here and there amongst interresting or not albums.

You'll find some on Seefeel's Quique (Imperial especially), Locust's In rememberance of times past (and check some early Appolo releases, Tournesol has some good things), Cultural Vibes' ma foom bay, some µ-Ziq on bluff limbo & tango n vectif (and so early rephlex stuff of course).

It depends a bit if you're more into Actium or Hedphelym in fact.

That's what comes to mind at the moment I'll check for some other things later

Yeah, I'd have to concur with you. My initial answer to the topic starter's question would have to be: NO. I'm for one glad that there isn't another album out there like SAW I. If there were, it would inherently make both SAW I and its equivalent album a little less special. I know it came many years later, but BoC's Hi-Scores ep....maybe, I dunno, actually its quite difficult to compare SAW I to much of anything. More a study of contrasts, really. A few tracks off Drexciya 4 perhaps. Some instrumental tracks from early John Foxx and even early Simple Minds. Shit, this is tough. An album that has Tha, Green Calx, Heliosphan, Watmm, etc... Damn!

Great to see Tournesol get a mention though. Haven't heard that name in years!

you're right, nothing can compare to SAW1 and I was foolish to believe otherwise... Found some great stuff from this topic, though, so I'll call it a great sucess.
