Is there another album in this world anything like SAW 85-92?

Recommended Posts

Yes, thanks for this thread esp the Bochum Welt recomendations. I have that track off the Braindance Coincidence but think I will get some more of his eps and albums now.

Hmm one similar album would be hard to find I don't know any tbh, you'll rather find some tracks over here and there amongst interresting or not albums.

You'll find some on Seefeel's Quique (Imperial especially), Locust's In rememberance of times past (and check some early Appolo releases, Tournesol has some good things), Cultural Vibes' ma foom bay, some µ-Ziq on bluff limbo & tango n vectif (and so early rephlex stuff of course).

It depends a bit if you're more into Actium or Hedphelym in fact.

That's what comes to mind at the moment I'll check for some other things later

Yeah, I'd have to concur with you. My initial answer to the topic starter's question would have to be: NO. I'm for one glad that there isn't another album out there like SAW I. If there were, it would inherently make both SAW I and its equivalent album a little less special. I know it came many years later, but BoC's Hi-Scores ep....maybe, I dunno, actually its quite difficult to compare SAW I to much of anything. More a study of contrasts, really. A few tracks off Drexciya 4 perhaps. Some instrumental tracks from early John Foxx and even early Simple Minds. Shit, this is tough. An album that has Tha, Green Calx, Heliosphan, Watmm, etc... Damn!

Great to see Tournesol get a mention though. Haven't heard that name in years!

you're right, nothing can compare to SAW1 and I was foolish to believe otherwise... Found some great stuff from this topic, though, so I'll call it a great sucess.

Yeah, its always good to re-visit some classics and discover new ones. Brings up some great memories too.

Awesome thread. :sup:

Agreed :emotawesomepm9:

Also, turns out I found exactly what I was looking for too, and then some...

Some of the best in this thread (imo): Bochum Welt, Global Goon, Susumu Yokota (goddamn this guy makes incredible music), Global Communication, 808 State, b12, and the Pete Namlook stuff.

the Pete Namlook stuff

If you're getting into (mostly early) Fax records, I'd recommend checking out the following:

  • Peter Benisch: Waiting for Snow
  • Pete Namlook: Air
  • Pete Namlook and Mixmaster Morris: Dreamfish
  • Pete Namlook and Geir Jenssen (yes, Biosphere): The Fires of Ork
  • Pete Namlook and Richie Hawtin (yes, Plastikman / FUSE): From Within
  • Pete Namlook and Bill Laswell: Psychonavigation
  • Pete Namlook and Ludwig Rehberg: The Putney
  • Pete Namlook and Tetsu Inoue: Shades of Orion
  • Pete Namlook and Dr. Atmo: Silence
  • Pete Namlook: Silence 5
  • Phonehead: Spyra

Yeah, Pete Namlook's collaborated with a lot of prominent musicians...

Anyway, I didn't want to mention all these albums earlier because they're not that similar to SAW 85-92, but if you'd like to check out that record label, these are my personal favourites and I can vouch for their awesomeness. ^.^

^I already listened to the From Within one and it was sweet. The song Homeward Bound particularly, had that exact ambient techno vibe I love so much.

Yeah, I love that track. It's very similar to The Girl With the Sun in Her Head, only with a TR-808 or something very similar. :D

OK, at the risk of blatantly self-advertising, you might like Triumphant Epilogue.

Edit: Wow, Homeward Bound came first. I never noticed that before! ^.^

But saw85-92 hasn't got at all that delayed "bleep" + pad all the time attitude, that's what I doesn't understand, this doesn't sound similar at all for me. If you're more into this then it opens many doors since it's well widespread, b12, dimension intrusion, black dog etc etc
