ok, first of all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNvgXJdZJZY&feature=player_embedded

secondly, check out this amazing tumblr

http://oneweekoneband.tumblr.com/tagged/klf/chrono

some extremely insightful stuff on how KLF and the manual managed to somehow spawn an entire generation of eurohouse imitators who completely failed to grasp that they were taking the piss. poe's law in action.

for the lazy, it contains a KLF rarities compilation which you can get at http://www.zshare.net/download/887701022dfa66c2/

(joyrex, all this material was wilfully, and tragically deleted intentionally by the band. so we're cool.)

  Quote
Their most notorious performance was a collaboration with Extreme Noise Terror at the February 1992 BRIT Awards, where they fired machine gun blanks into the audience and dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party. This performance announced The KLF's departure from the music business, and in May 1992 the duo deleted their entire back catalogue...

On 12 February 1992, The KLF and crust punk group Extreme Noise Terror performed a live version of "3 a.m. Eternal" at the BRIT Awards, the British Phonographic Industry's annual awards show; a "violently antagonistic performance" in front of "a stunned music-business audience".[39] Drummond and Cauty had planned to throw buckets of sheep's blood over the audience, but were prevented from doing so due to opposition from BBC lawyers[40][41] and "hardcore vegans" Extreme Noise Terror.[29][42] The performance was instead garnished by a limping, kilted, cigar-chomping Drummond firing blanks from an automatic weapon over the heads of the crowd. As the band left the stage, The KLF's promoter and narrator Scott Piering announced over the PA system that "The KLF have now left the music business". Later in the evening the band dumped a dead sheep with the message "I died for you—bon appetit" tied around its waist at the entrance to one of the post-ceremony parties...

The K Foundation was an arts foundation established by Drummond and Cauty in 1993 following their 'retirement' from the music industry. From 1993 to 1995 they engaged in a number of art projects and media campaigns, including the high-profile K Foundation art award (for the "worst artist of the year").[50][51] Most notoriously, they burnt what was left of their KLF earnings—a million pounds in cash—and filmed the performance.[52][53][54]

I saw the documentary about that - I seems like they ended up getting in over their heads a bit when they realised the gravity of what they'd done and ended up trying to get some money back by trying to sell the ashes as some sort of art piece...

The whole things seems to unravel from 6:15 onwards of part 4, they have a definite 'rabbit in the headlights' look about them from that point on.

having read a few of bill's books, he admits himself that sometimes his ideas are kinda only half-formed. but when he does shit, he really means it. like, he was initially planning to cut off his hand, live on stage at the brits, but was talked out of it. people who know him said he was 100% serious about it.

his books are excellent btw, especially 45.

Shut up sirch, trolling is pointlessly cruel and not looked on favourably here. Sure you can now reply that you don't care about this sentiment because you're above namby pandering to goodness, and why don't we all get a sense of humour.

But what are you actually above, good manners, kindness, a collegial sense of decorum, turning the other cheek (your reply to this post should be an example of this).

it's a reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_enigma - drummond was/is obsessed with it

also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illuminatus!_Trilogy - which is the origin of the 'justified ancients of mu mu' alias

illuminatus! also features john dillinger as a character, with the recurrent phrase 'everybody lie down on the floor and keep calm' - which is used in 'last train to trancentral'.

there are illuminatus!/discordian references everywhere in the klf canon.

(between lines: Glad to be of help for giving you an excuse to ignore some posts from some individual. ;-)
