KLF thread #23

Although I do like KLF a great deal, the best thing this thread did for me was remind me how good the Pet Shop Boys song "Left to my own Devices" is.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

'1991 album release' is the official 'white room'. there is also an unreleased 'black room' which is patchy but worthy of your attention.

the klf discography is a complicated beast.

yeah it's great shit innit :emotawesomepm9:

you wanna get 'space - space'

ok basically jimi cauty used be in the orb and then he had a fight with alex patterson

so bits of his work on 'the orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld' ended up on chill out, and what was left ended up as 'space' and everything that he contributed to 'ultraworld' was removed. but i would argue that ultraworld is just as much a klf album as it is an orb album. matter of fact hangon, you'll have a pm shortly :spiteful:

edit: the other 'white room' is the soundtrack to their unreleased film, btw

I heard the story a bit different. Cauty and Paterson co found The Orb. The do a couple of singles including "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brains That Rules From The Center Of The Ultraworld". They begin work on a debut album (what is to become Space), no particular title known. This album is like a mix jam similar to Chill Out. Paterson decides he doesn't want The Orb to be seen as The KLF's side project in the press because The KLF was big by then. Cauty says fine and deletes Paterson's contributions from the album they worked on together. Cauty releases what is left as Space. Paterson then starts a whole other record w/ other collaborators and this becomes Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld; only Cauty contribution being the inclusion of a mix of A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain... at the end.

But Space is fucking great. I favor it over Chill Out.

i think at this point it's hard to tell what happened, especially because there's a third version of events in one of bill drummond's books. but regardless, i think the three albums actually work as a combined... thing... really well. especially when you factor in the expanded 3-disc version of ultraworld. you can definitely hear common elements between the three of them - and in fact in other klf stuff as well ('go to sleep' is like a housey version of 'wichita lineman was a song i once heard').

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDRt4tjjlHg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t74BiBmBizk

and in fact you can hear the magnificent seven theme in 'wichita lineman' (and to a lesser extent in 'go to sleep'), something they recycled in 'the magnificent', many years later. i'm a fucking sucker for self-referentialism like that - if you read some of drummond's stuff you can sorta get into his head and understand this crazy theme-recycling thing.

lol, i just noticed the 'this... is radio freedom' sample from the start of 'the magnificent' is also used at the start of '3am eternal (live at the SSL)'. KLF are a trainspotter's dream as far as that sort of shit goes.

Shut up sirch, trolling is pointlessly cruel and not looked on favourably here.

Aye, where on earth did that even come from - is there a reference I missed ?

No reference--just a continued persecution complex on sirch's part regarding kaini. They're mortal enemies but I think only one party knows it.

lol, hardly....... !

"mortal enemies"?.. come off it, Dr. ..and "persecution complex",?

wow some of you guys analyse and talk shit way too much.

ps. there was no reference, hidden, or intended, or any hate.

i just enjoy poking at stick at kaini sometimes, as he did me. it's no 'biggie' really !

carry on........ :)

sirch:

fuck it, let me expand on that;

the foundation of any online community is content. that content might be a video, a piece of music, an insightful comment, or a thread that sparks discussion.

when you chime in on one of my threads with something that's not attempting to do any of those things, you're not contributing. you're just annoying everyone. not only that, but everyone who sees the post tags you as a retard, and is less likely to view any further posts they see from you with anything other than skepticism. xxx's insightful post observed that you seem to think of me as your mortal enemy or some similar bullshit. i'm not. your posts are a little blip on the radar. a minor annoyance. i don't give a shit if you live or die.

so i would urge you to go back to the plaid forum where you actually seem to contribute meaningful content, and leave me alone. you're not mortally wounding me, you're not insulting me. you're just annoying me. and you're not even annoying me that much. you are the internet equivalent of a little gnat.

of course i know this.

let's just bury the hatchet, kaini. there's no point in bitching any longer.

no hard feelings, man, seriously.

all the best to you and yours and with your threads.

ok?

ftr, i like the KLF. i remember seeing them on 'Top of the Pops' and thinking wtf! (in a good way) :)

they've done some good shit for sure.

I disagree with the idea that one can't deviate from the original purpose of a threads OP. In fact that is the lifeblood of many a dry and dying topic. I do on the otherhand draw the line at a continual nitpicking and pointlessly abusive counterposts to a threads original intent.

Anyway, buys you both double measures of some decent rum. ;-] and walks away smiling (and secretly wanting booze too, but he can't have any cause he made a commitment. -sie-)

kaini, i didn't read all that but i like this when you expand more. you should do this more, seriously, instead of doing what you used to do too often. i like and implore this positive change in you.

i'll leave it there.

but on the most part i don't. leave it lie.
