The first equipment I purchased was an Oxygen8v2 and a Korg PadKontrol along with a new laptop and Ableton Live. If you want actual hardware then my only purchase has been a DSI Tetra. Not sure why you think anything will "move you forward", you decide what you do with the equipment you have at hand. Buying that nice thousand dollar piece of equipment doesn't mean shit unless you can actually do something with it.

Live has changed how I produce more than anything else.

Novation Xio Synth 49, bought it three years ago, still using it but the DC supply doesn't work anymore so I have to use it as an USB device everytime, and that's pretty annoying.

Yep.

Not a sequencer though.

yamaha rm1x. bought it when i was still in highschool. it was about 1200 including tax.

sold it and bought another off ebay the other day and it's in the mail! (this one was only 200!)

crazy how prices go up and down like that..

Korg Ms-10 was the first thing I spent over $100 on. I think it changed my outlook on synth patch design a great deal, but as far as actual song production not so much (that changes on its own slowly over time whether I'm using new tools or not).

I don't know what serious means....

Oxygen 8 was the first piece of musical gear.

First "serious" equipment purchase was probably my ex-Roland V-Synth, which I only owned for about a year before selling it for my Virus.

Definitely the MS2000B, to this day I don't think I've spent as much money on anything (hell, when I got it, I got it on a payment plan), was only about $800 though I think.

The first piece of equipment I bought that I was thinking "This means serious business!" though has to have been my Fostex 8 track reel to reel with the matching mixer, ironically I didn't ever use that for a single track (moved back to Montreal less than a month after I bought it, and it's still sitting in my studio in Vancouver).

first serious equipment i ever bought was a tascam 4track tape recorder. great times.

Haha, good one!

ESP Telecaster and a Roland Jazzchorus for me.

I've heard really good things about ESP Fender duplications. Saw an ESP Precision Bass on craigslist for 700 that I'm still kicking myself for not buying. I'm surprised I even want to talk to you after reading that you bought a chorus. (I H8TES TEH CHORUS FX WIT A TONY BRAXTON)

Roland Jazzchorus is a guitar amp, also used extensively by keyboardists. Yes, it has a chorus effect on it as well as spring reverb. Mine was the JC120 with two 12" speakers. I lugged it to rehearsal every week, even though it weighs 35kg.
