I've got one with its pots going all scratchy from age, it's actually kinda funky sounding

yeah some samples weren't bad but I kinda hated the sequencer, and the fact that most of the samples already had FX on it, mostly reverb. so I couldn't fit it in the mix most of the times.

Mm I've noticed Alesis tend to do that as I got my sis a Performance Pad and a lot the sounds verb on them. Anyways I downloaded the SR16 and HR16 samples many moons ago and I have to say I find them very useful. There are a lot of dry snares or snares without much reverb on them too.

1st was a korg emx1, great purchase at the time, now i just use it to sequence the jp-8000 (got for free). emx1 is has a lot of good possibilities, but i don't use it tooo much anymore.
