Guest MrSparkle666
One of these: and one of these: Turned out the 50 watt tube head didn't put out enough power, so I replaced it with one of these a few weeks later: That was 12 years ago. I had to sell the cab when I moved. It was heavily damaged from gigging anyway. Still have both heads and the bass (I use the tube head as a guitar amp). The bass is in the process of being painted at the moment. I'll post pics when it's done. jeyemusik
I think I'm a front runner for making the biggest mistake... there was a shop selling a Moog Prodigy for a £100 and I opted instead to spend £120 on a brand spanking new Soundblaster AWE32 from out the back of Micromart. It seemed to me at the time that the fact it could take SIMMS for sampling meant it would be a great investment for the future. I played in a band in the late 90s with a guy who had one of these. It was actually a pretty sweet guitar. He sold his USA strat to "upgrade" to this. They still cost over a grand. I kinda wanted one back then, but I HATE floyd rose tremolos now, so I wouldn't go near it anymore. modey
if we're including guitars, i'll say it was my samick strat clone. i've still got it and it still sounds pretty great. in terms of electronic devices, besides my guitar pedals, it was probably a yamaha portasound, heh. I wouldn't mind having one accessory guitar with a floyd rose, but I'll never have a main axe with one again. They are just such a pain in the ass. Forget about alternate tunings or trying out different string gauges. Doing a setup proper setup and intonation on the thing takes like 2 fucking hours. I took mine to my local tech, and he said "Yeah, we don't touch those. They come setup from the factory and we leave them alone." Fuuuucccccck. Guest Promo
I bought a Roland 606 from an ad in Future Music in 1999 for £100. After playing with it for about 2 days I decided it would be too expensive to integrate into my set up via Kenton Midi so I sent it back. I see they go for like £300 now. Guest Sprigg
Oxygen 8 v2 (which, due to my laptop's shitty soundcard and/or my ignorance, operates with significant enough lag that it's unusable in FL, and for some reason in FL I can't hear any playback when I'm using Edison to record), and a Korg Monotron. When I find a job I'm gonna get a Microkorg and fuck around on that thing... or I might just jack my friend's, he never uses it Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/66533-your-first-serious-equipment-purchase/page/2/#findComment-1594367 Share on other sites
Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
Yeah I hate Floyd Rose setups too, dear god, never again. I think my first single music item purchase over 300 was a red Gibson Les Paul Special which I later found Bob Marley played the same lookin git fiddle, It's still the most metalriffic guitar I own after installing a EMG 81 in the bridge. I have spent over 1300 hundred, repairing that guitar twice after a friend accidentally knocked it off the guitar stand (never use guitar stands anymore 10 years later) converting it from p90 soap bar to humbucker (first put in a Seymour Duncan JB, then the EMG) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/66533-your-first-serious-equipment-purchase/page/2/#findComment-1594379 Share on other sites
