Yes but they are a fucking HUGE band. They can afford buttloads on the sound design etc. Your average hardcore band can't.

i admit i do feel good when I get together with a group of my fellow vacuous hipsters and pat each-other on the back for liking Crystal Castles

(i dispute the nail part specifcally however, because hipster's aren't suited for carpentry, one nail snag in their skin tight jeans and it ruins the whole week)

I've seen plenty of local bands that sounded really good live, just like they did on records. SNFU, nomeansno, D.O.A. all sounded great live. I guess actually practicing pays off. who would have thunk it.
