mislabelled? i haven't heard that one. the first leak was a few old tunes (starting w/ spectrum), then old tunes volume 2 (starting w/ we've started up) and then (I thought) old tunes volume 1 (unlabelled). Why do you say that's not correct?

What I meant was the tape that has mostly untitled tracks is probably not Old Tunes Volume 1 - I asked my friend at HexSun to identify the unnamed tracks, but they declined. It is logical to assume it is OTV1, but with BoC you never know.

Unfortunately that is the only tape I do not have an original of, but the person who sent it to me identified it as being OTV1.

I just wish BoC would either release a 'best of' compilation of these (or all of them) either as a release or Mp3s on Bleep or the BoC site.

Hey, thanks Joyrex, that's newsworthy. I remember a while back there was a website with a picture of some electronic gear, and that cassette was hidden in the background. Someone tried to clean up the image to decipher it, they could make out that it was Boards of Canada, and the woman's face, but that was it. Glad to finally see it close up. You should send it to Fredd - E (or however he spells it) so he can put it up on the BoC pages.

Btw, reading the cassette, I'm reminded that was when BoC still had a sense of humor about themselves. How cool would it be if the TCH EP had something like "Music 70 in the house!" on the inlay. lol.

You still need to fix/remove 'short interlude' on OTV2... it's actually Heysanna Hosanna, as most people 'cut' the OTV2 tape incorrectly. The proper tracktimes/names are below:

Yes, they are very good (the vast majority of them), and yes, you would have to use a P2P or torrent to find these, as they are not commercially available (yet).

Here's where we differ. What I can say with a high degree of certainty is that "Sir Prancelot Brainfire" is the 2:51 track (which you label as "Dave Came to Mahanaim") and "Heysanna Hosanna" is the 0:53 track (which you label as "Mushyz").

How can I be sure? Because they're both 'covers'.

Sir Prancelot was an old children's cartoon. Check out the closing theme of Sir Prancelot from this page.

"Hosanna" was a song from the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical "Jesus Christ Superstar". You can hear a clip at Amazon's page, but I couldn't find a mp3 sample. I did, though, find an amusing mp3 of a surf-rock version (album).

So the question is, where does the off-by-one error start? The clearest place is the break in the 2:05 track you list as "Iraq Says". I would say "Iraq Says" is the cut-up news clip portion of about 39 seconds, and "Nine-Rubber Wisdom" is the remaining 1:20 or so.

The times listed on Fredd's site are the same as I have long maintained are the proper ones; the times you quote are, in fact, the way (afaik) the album was originally leaked. The only remaining question to me is where to put those 8 seconds. Previous interludes have usually gone at the end of the previous track, so you could probably just tack in on the end of Heysanna Hosanna.

Right, I believe that was on rewind-records.com. I saved a copy but it had some text over it.

I guess originally it didn't, someone made a blown-up section of just the tape.

Joyrex's version is much nicer, though!
