looks like its not really growing anymore. sure its nice to read posts here and there but I wonder if and how long they keep the hype running. I had the first strange feeling when I did see social media management books written for people like my parents in the library the first time some time ago

i gave up on it. was getting sick of the retarded shit going on there, being posted by people i would otherwise have thought were of sound mind and judgement. Facebook really is like YouTube comments, but without the YouTube.

also, i got sick of the continually opted-in features being added/changed.

Facebook - not for me.

I will keep my account as I see it more like email but I really wonder what comes next if it the hype completely breaks down one day

the main problem is: in web 2.0 there is only hype or downfall. stability is more a sign of the need to change something soon to prevent downfall

see, this is an argument a lot of people seem to use for keeping hold of their Facebook account and i don't understand it at all.

people say that "yeah but everyone has a Facebook account, so it's just more convenient"...well, everyone that has a Facebook account also has an email account. so there you go.

anyway. i won't say anymore. i've already made my stance on Facebook pretty clear, and i don't wanna annoy those here that might actually find it useful (i'm sure there are some of you, right?).

There are rumours about a Facebook Phone, but that's pretty much all I know.

yeah but what about 50% of my friends at facebook never check their email cause they have facebook and 40% are people who where added when I met them but never gave me their email in the first place.

yeah becoming more ubiquitous is a solution thats very true. I assume they also will update soon to create another small hype

facebook is superior to email as you receive the information without actually doing anything. with email you actively have to make a connection for every contact

there's a quote from Natural Born Killers....something about the mass media being like the weather, only man-made. seems apt for Facebook.

see, you say it's superior, i say it's noise. each to their own, it's cool that you find it useful though. it's just a shame that so many people assume that everyone has it and that it is ubiquitous. it is far from ubiquitous. it's just trendy.

it's not really important if facebook continues to be used or not. Internet won't fucking die.

Guest couch

I only really like facebook because a lot of bands use it to post info. So rather than having to go to their websites or forums to find out about tour dates, releases, promotions and whatnot it comes to me on facebook. There is probably something better for that but I dunno about it, maybe lastfm?

It's easier to email or call/text people. For typed messages email is about as direct as you can get. Then there's the phone for needing to chat right away. Why bother w/ FB chat and messages?

I despise Facebook, but it's the only surefire way to get a hold of most of my friends. Most people I know don't check their email or voicemail, so that's not really an option, and we're all on crazy schedules most of the time so phone calls are kinda inconvenient... Texts, it's too much of a pain to type a long-winded, detailed text. So we use Facebook. I've cropped my 'friends' list to be just people I actually know or need to know, and it's become more tolerable... but I'd much rather interact in person.

How did you do it? I have these people from the past that never comment on anything or so they are just there because I did add them years ago and knew them from even longer ago. hmmm...

I regularly trim my Facebook friends and try to keep it under 80. I really don't know more than 60 people, but I keep some extra people because they're interesting on Facebook and/or may be useful in the future.

It might be harsh, but I cull my friends. Sometimes I get knowing looks from people I've deleted, but fuck that. 1NT3RN3TZ.

I also blocked every member of my non-immediate family. Facebook certainly isn't for families.

If I haven't spoken to you in two years, I'd say I have no reason to have you on Facebook... so I use the magical 'delete' button.

It complicates things with some family, who apparently get offended when I delete them, but I don't even speak to half of them so why they give a toss is beyond me.
