i tend to listen to pretty dynamic stuff that can be really harsh. i've got no problem finding music for myself, but lately i've been playing autechre at work and coworkers are confused about the "dial up modem sounds".

so far i've got some playlists with BOC, tortoise, arovane, cepia and select afx/ae/clark

everyone bitched about pule one day and i was sad :(

I always found calmer more downtempo BoCish stuff tended to go over better at work than autechre and noisier stuff...

... and yes.

Both are personal favorites of mine.

Though Spanish Flea was actually on the album "Going Places" and not "Whipped Cream & Other Delights"... but that's ok.

:whistling:

*edit*

Personally, I've been digging my JS Bach Pandora station for work.

we listen to groovesalad on somafm a lot at work. it never bothers anyone and there is enough bop and groove to hold interest. other times I'll make playlists with stuff like grizzly bear, grouper, foals, talking heads, joy division, zep, etc. once in awhile I'll throw in some sabbath, old Metallica, and stuff like that if I'm feeling good or on Fridays.

The job I had in Florida I knew not to play it. When I was asked what kind of music I'd like to listen to one time, I just chose an underground hip hop station on pandora. Other timse I chose Jazz, Trip Hop, Ambient, Dub Raggae. Jazz got a negative reaction from one dude, he was a gay dude that never mentioned it but everyone knew. He listened to Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilara when it was his turn to choose the music.

Most were cool with my music selections. Others thought it was weird. So that was my signal to not play the stuff that I really like, like AE. Some heard it when I drive into the parking lot blasting stuff like V-Proc or Dropp... One girl came into the office one day and said "I knew you listen to that type of music!" She was nice about it and would ask me about stuff like underworld or daft punk.

I only played IDM music a couple of times only because some were interested in listening from what I was explaining every now and then.

These co-workers basically inspired me not to be a prick about what music others listen to. There were so many diverse musics we listened to from blue grass, hip hop, jazz, pop, accesible electronic music, etc.

if you really need advice on what music normal people are comfortable with, you might want to stop being close-minded about non-electronic music. autechre sounds like dial-up sounds to most people because it's unlistenable shit to most people. deal with it.

p.s. idm is dead, was this thread bumped from six years ago?

hence my ^post - this problem seems outdated: most people have slowly had their minds set to electronic over the last ~5 years, so now they're usually not saying stupid shit against autechre and instead start liking it for the wrong reason and come back at you with David Guetta - I don't know what's worse tbh. I think now.

liking autechre for the "wrong" reason? what do you mean? sounds rather elitist. all i was suggesting, in joking that this thread is six years old, is that autechre is quite outdated at this point—i was surprised people still have an issue with playing autechre in the workplace because i didn't know people still play autechre in the workplace.

in conclusion, just listen to non-electronic music. whoever suggested jazz knows how to think outside the dusty old box.

One of the reasons I remind myself my job is a-ok. I also think back to brief time I shared an office cubicle with a guy who played Matisyahu. In fact, I actually didn't mind much, up until he called it rap instead of reggae.

"This sounds kinda cool because it's electro - it IS electro is it? Cause I like electro, you know, I like it since almost four weeks ago! Anyway this song is too long you can't dance that long to the same song." - there are plenty of wrong reasons :spiteful:

so your point is that i shouldn't be playing music from that era at work?

ok thanks

and yet somehow "jazz" is new and fresh, any kind of jazz apparently.

your post angers me a lot more than it should
