My photos are put through either Lightroom for PC (and using VSCO for Lightroom), or VSCO on my phone.

I prefer Lightroom + VSCO because it offers more control and fidelity.

For my next few, I thought I'd throw in a pic from my new phone. Not that you'd tell, just from looking though - totally recommend either the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P as far as photography is concerned, brilliant camera module on these phones.

Oscilik, you live near some tasty looking stuff and take pictures that make 'em look even more tasty. The low exposure on that last one makes the handrail look cel shaded and/or video gamey.

I'm proud to say you were my first subscriber and my first subscription! I must give flickr a proper look, I've only really ever left it running in the background uploading. Must delve into the functionality.

The (gorgeous) filtered looks you are getting on your photos, is it primarily coming from the character of the camera or is it in post?

Edit: Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a redundant question, I know you said above that you use lightroom and vsco. Just wondering if the camera has much of a part in the less stylized images.

Yeah the filtered looks are primarily coming from post-processing, within either Lightroom with VSCO packs, or with the VSCO app on my phone. I find that the phone app (particularly on Android) can introduce JPG artefacting, particularly on reds for some reason.

As for the overall look of the photos, it's a combination of everything really. My camera (Fujifilm X100T), in my non-expert opinion, imparts it's on mark on the quality of the image in terms of the sharpness of the image as well as the focal length of the image, lens distortion, and bokeh. The in-camera processing does have it's own look, which can be manipulated on-board with it's own set of filters but I tend not to use them. I should also mention, if it's not obvious from my shots and the camera I'm using - it's a prime lens camera, and I have no zoom. I also usually work in full manual mode (aka 'fuckin hipster mode') the majority of the time.

The rest of it is all done in Lightroom. I shoot in RAW + JPEG, so I have the RAW files to mess about with in Lightroom in high quality, and then I also have the JPEG if I want to post-process in the mobile phone app (VSCO app for mobile doesn't support RAW files, at least not yet. Snapseed, however, does support RAW files but I find it's filters a bit too heavy handed).

Coming from only using mobile phones for photography, shooting in RAW on a semi-decent camera, using software that can handle RAW files, really is night-and-day difference in terms of the quality of the pictures I've been taking. I had wanted a proper camera for ages, and I wish I had gotten hold of one a lot sooner.

What's your workflow?

 

My workflow consists of a 2nd hand Nikon D3100 with a semi decent/crappy kit lens going into Lightroom which I only started using around 2 weeks ago. Before that it was tedious sessions in Photoshop with multiple tabs, a nightmare in terms of effective workflow.

don't know how you survive with a prime, but you make it look easy from your photos.

Was in Iceland a week back and got some nature shots, basically what Iceland was made for!
