best 2nd albums

Yeah I'm a little unclear - because if it's just second albums that are great, then it's easy - but if it's artists whose second albums are their best...that's a little trickier.

Some off the top of my head:

Tim Hecker - Radio Amor

Ash Ra Tempel - Schwingungen

Popol Vuh - In Den Gärten Pharaos

Loscil - Submers

Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygène

By a mile, Head Over Heels by Cocteau Twins, whichever way you read the thread.

I interpreted it as "list some of the best second albums ever". There are albums by a couple of the artists I listed that are stronger yet.

Underworld - Second Toughest in the Infants

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head (no joke, I think this album is perfect)

I had just found this thread and was quite shocked it wasn't mentioned one of my favorite records of all time

I actually do like Tiger Mountain the best of all Eno's work, I must admit... The Fat Lady of Limbourg is unbelievable

All of these are great albums, although not all surpass the originals in my opinion. Geogaddi is probably leading the pack here as it's in my top 5 period.

not a big mars volta fan myself but I seem to remember the drumming being pretty good on that album.
