The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute

It's been forever since I listened to this. I remember thinking it really paled in comparison with De-Loused in the Comatorium, but still had a lot of amazing moments.

It got a lot of flack for its excessive interludes, but goddamn! It melts faces like crazy. Over-the-top like lots of progressive rock, but in a more earthy, dirty way. Which is cool.

And yes, the drumming is explosive.
