The long and gritty percussion sample in the beginning of Cipater sounds like a typewriter to me. Also, after giving Dial. another listen I noticed a lot of voices and minute details that are pretty chilling and make the song worth it.

P.s. Zeiss Contarex. "Yorgneh hmp... Beetoven".

any ideas on what the source of the 'percussion' in parhelic triangle could be? i definitely hear bells in there towards the end, but the rest sounds like some kind of disgusting alien organism.

The bells grow from a sound that begins around 10 seconds into the song.

The final beat of the repeated percussion cycle kind of reminds me of the sound effect used in films to recreate the smacking sound of a punch.

IO at 01:48 sounds like "an invitation to love"

Has anyone ever worked out what the 'IO man' is saying?

I often think I can pick out occasional words when listening to it, 'walk away' near the end, also 'quaristice' around the middle, but I could be just kidding myself.

sounds like "pay attention to what"

Oh and Krib's "bottle percussion" has always reminded me of my high school band and those wooden percussion instruments akin to something like this.... but i know i'm way off the mark... still, looks like a bottle that makes percussion .... sorry about the double post BTW. it's not letting me edit my own above post for some reason. says i don't have permission to edit my own friggin post :wtf:

There is also a cat purring at the end of Tewe.

Wow! The cat is rubbing against their field recorder and purring! Slightly off-topic but there is also a cat sample at the beginning of the Bibio track Dwrcan at the 30 second mark which is so perfectly (purfectly) placed!

What a nice thread to resurrect! :)

I just got my first stereo recorder and it's opening up a whole new world to me. Deep down I'm pretending I will find some amazing Autechrean noises and though I accept consciously that will never happen, it's good fun nonetheless.

One thing I've found so far: squeaky door samples sound awesome with loop modulation.

not sure if somebody already mentioned fol4 or Fol3(as it's called in it's shortened regular Quaristice form) sounds like a track they made completely out of one long field recording. I'd guess it's either a train station or some kind of machine operated factory. Either way its a fucking awesome track and by far one of the most interesting one-off conceptual tracks they've done. Love it

it reminds me of some of the newer Gescom stuff the way they pitch up and down the sample as it's running instead of obvious cutups creating the direction and rhythm of the track (although there is some of that too in Fol4 especially the hi-hat which sounds like a very short spliced part of a metal squeak)

I bought a Olympus RS-4 for school related shit and it just opens up a world of possibilities. Recently it was raining and the roof of my room is a flat surface made of wood of course. The raindrops resonated on the ceiling and it was the perfect sound to pick up on a stereo recorder. I put that ambiance through a vocoder that could utilize a carrier signal and it really had some wicked harmonics. And really, that is only scratching the surface of possibilities. I could spend my whole life doing this shit!

The iphone's microphone is really great for field recording.. One of these days I'll buy something more substantial but I've made percussion out of commercial printer sounds, and I've sampled my stomach growling too—the iphone mic almost acts like a stethoscope so you hear things you normally won't hear (stomach growling sounded like a 303!).

fol4 gubbins

Yeah I think it's quite obviously field recordings. Though I think it's more nature than factory. I hear a lot of water under bridge kind of noises similar to canals where I used to live.

Amazing track though, far prefer it to Fol3. I posted on the AE track meanings site a theory about fol3 meaning folE meaning "foley", as it has that recorded sound thing about it. Might be wrong but it seemed to fit.

There was some I heard on Perlence Subrange 6-36 which really freaked me out as I honestly thought it was just a repeating 10-or-so second loop with no variation -

Listen real carefully (on decent headphones) to the section from 18:24 - 18:58 - in the background it sounds like a recoding of like an old English police siren going past and some sort of squeaking something or other that plays a couple of times (it's repeated a bit again in a slightly different guise at 21:49-21:53). There also sounds like very brief snippets of people talking from 20:52 - 21:08

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

those lyrics are a very accurate interpretation of IO. I always thought that track sounded like my spaceship's comm deck was failing to receive a message from some kind of religious cult leader because of an intense solar storm.

I always hear 'Why don't you just go back to being a person?'

IO is the chopped up recording of a math class in architect college?

I wish I knew.
