imo it just is  I wouldn't do it. I'm not looking to get into a heated argument about it or anything. It is just something I look down on I guess. It seems exceedingly lazy to me. I see where you're coming from, and if he just did it for a check, that's pretty lol, but again, it just isn't something I can agree with.

I understand it from the POV of musical integrity but really - I'm pretty sure he just did it for the cheque. I would hop on board that gravy train and ride it until I had enough gravy to cover all the poutine in Quebec.

My point of view with this kind of selling out is if you can do -as much as possible- off that one hit track then you need compromise your art less in other less commercially attractive productions, because A: you have a bit of leverage as the guy who did that track, and B: you don't need as many minor hits.

On second thought, Kanye made a ton of money rapping over a classic Daft Punk track so I guess it's not that weird.

Who also ripped it off of Edwin Birdsong. Every Daft Punk song is pretty much a ripoff.

Well there you go.

Listen guys, I think we should all just be thankful that whoever produced this track didn't try to shoehorn Rihanna in there somehow.

Cant we just be thankful for that?

Yes.

Haha I got sucked into the Timbaland article on Wikipedia, and found this hilarious little bit:

  Quote
In June 2010, when questioned by RWD magazine about the UK music scene he made the bold claim to be the inspiration for the dub-step music scene. “The UK scene... they’re always telling me that I started it. You have Dub-bass...”. When questioned further about it he went on to say: "It’s funny cos they went back to some of my old music that really created that sound and just, instead of going fast, they went slow with more bass."

I don't listen to dubstep or whatever, but that's just hilarious to me.

Fuck, if I could take one of my tracks and have some super famous pop singer wail over it, I'll gladly accept the check. It might:

A] Give me more work as a producer, and

B] Expose more people to the music I've already written.

How the fuck is it it cheating when the guy who wrote the song is using it in a different song? I'm not talking about timbaland here.

Agreed.

If I had made a track that was extremely popular on the internet but didn't get any air play on the radio which would cause me to lose a lot of royalty money I would - without a doubt - give the track to Beyoncé, tell her I wanted 50% of the royalties, and then perhaps even give her a little peck on the cheek.

I mean, it's okay to have standards and be artsy about one's music but if music production is your primary income then you would be an absolute fool to say 'no' to Beyoncé.

Beyoncé: 'Hey, do you want to make a million dollars by sending me the multitracks?'

Major Lazer: 'Lol. No'.

Seems ridiculous, no?

Oh shit this is some epic trolling:

In September 2008 it was announced that Timbaland would be inducted into the Philosophical Society of Trinity College, Dublin as an Honorary Patron in October 2008.

Guest Promo

I hate that Beyonce track. Not a big fan of Major Lazer anyhow so the backing music didn't grab me at all. 'Pon de dancefloor' is pretty mediocre all said and told and no more than a novelty record imo. What is sad is that if a male artist were to say 'men run the world' everyone would be up in arms. I think its ridiculous that that crap even got released. I have no idea what kinda of message she is trying to portray other than just being troll. Retarded.

Not really trying to defend Timbaland here, but this is kind of true. I don't have references at the moment, but I remember back in 2006 reading a few producers talk about how Timbaland was a big influence. For as shit as the plagiarism incident is, I think a lot of people forget how great the early Timbaland beats were.

Well, I wouldn't have created the thread had I known that half of Major Lazer produced the song.

Yeah, I agree here. If someone were to say, "Hey hautlle I like your track "Derpadiddlecock", it would sound sick with bob loblaw singing over the top." and that lead to some cash I'd be all over it.

Once a track is that old I lose the personal touch with it. I don't hold my older works as dearly as my new ones (perspective innit)

I think tech step dnb was probably a larger influence since it's the same thing, except with more speed and less bass.
