Looking for an old thread of an old aphex concert

Recommended Posts

Sometime ago someone posted a youtube vid (not sure if it was in the aphex twin forum) of an old aphex show where he was sitting at a desk with an old crt monitor and some guy dancing african style next to him. Anyone have that link? Shit was so bad ass

A lot of TV excerpt stuff about Warp artists are from French or German TV programmes. I suppose they have better TV.

Great video as well. Love vintage Aphex, sounds so rough n ready, and beautifully homespun. Would've loved to have seen him live in his early days.

I saw him on the NASA "See The Light Tour", I think that's what it was called. That was 1993. It was amazing. My friends and I were talking and I think Orbital or Vapurspace were playing then I heard "Aphex techno" going on and I was like "that's Aphex!". So we ran down to the dancing area and lost our minds, it was all strobelights and Aphex music. He played Digeridoo for sure. It was wicked.:)

Damn right they have better quality telly, wouldve swallowed me falsers if this had been filmed by RTE who really show no electronic dance music whatsoever, unless it was an occasional track in the October/November series Under Ether or the much lamted. One night they actually showed the Come to Daddy video on the show, Aphex Twin on RTE well that was something, wouldve preferred if they had showed the whole Aphex Twin Forbidden Fruit set on the channel but you cant have everything I suppose.

Yep, french MCM (as we can see the footage in my previous post) and german Viva Zwei.

Sorry for repeating post but editing tool was disabled:

ah amazing, great story :)

Would love to see the whole video of this. I mean, it stops just as Start as You Mean to go on starts!

I have acid-tinged memory of Aphex playing in Irland in the late 90's in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin. Pretty sure he had a bearded dancer on stage, but no sign of RDJ himself (possibly hidden in a Wendy house on the right of the stage) and the music was mostly SAW 2 ambience! (Yes the dancer still danced to it).

I do remember the clock above the bar melting and soem of my mates leaving is disgust at the lack of beats.

After that we went back to a freidns hosue and i put on a tape my dad gave me of early Susumo Yokota and we tripped all night!

Anyone recall the Olympia gig because i never met anyone who remembered it! (lost touch with those old buddies)

I good mate of mine had him playing in our local town around the same time as this. He cost charged £1000 even back then, the cue went around the block as he'd just blagged NME with all that jazz, my mate had to talk through his agent as Richard wasn't talking to anyone to be dark and mysterious, he surrounded himself in mixers and other junk like in the video then blew the PA after 20 mins!!!! :aphexsign:
