i just got TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED 2 and it is like ((GTAIV - Violence) + MMORPG). i like building up a load of speed and barreling into other players in my ferrari. often i beep the horn a fraction of a second before impact. some people get quite upset at me.

i played wow for 4-5 years (late 2004 beta - 2009), of which i spent atleast 2 years raiding like an idiot, rushing home from work every day to keep up with the guilds raid times etc. it's really easy and fun to get into, though it gets really fucking addicting if you'll let it. even the little things like the way your character controlls and moves is so much better than any other mmo i've ever seen/played. im never going back to it, but i do miss it sometimes. 40-man molten core / blackwing lair / naxxramas raids were too much fun. also, the goddamn auction house is just as addictive as the game itself. but yeah, i quit wow, joined watmm and started making music again for the first time in years. fucking game.

so when is guild wars 2 coming out?

theres this new one coming out that looks neat it has destructible environments .. i forget what its called. ill get back to you

wtf is a raid? I don't like the idea of having to co-ordinate with others in order to play. I would like some kind of mostly solo + pvp game, but with certain peaceful areas. I'd like to jump in, see other guys playing around me, but not worry about being gangbanged. Also I like the idea of randomly joining up with whoever happens to be around at the time on a team for casual stuff. Can wow be like that or do you HAVE to join a guild to have fun?

it can be like that if you want it to.

raids are like huge dungeons with really hard enemies in them that take 10 or 25 people to beat. lots and lots of coordination required, and if you're end-game raiding you gotta have really good gear if you want to even have a chance of trying.

why am i telling people this stuff just don't play warcraft.

yeah i had just gotten a new computer when half life came out, loved that shit. played cs back when all the gun models were left handed only lol.

i think the difference between wow and games like those though is that wow is this giant self contained world. sure there's a community outside of it, but most of the interaction happens in-game and whatnot. it's like you pretty much have to be in the game world to do much of anything related to the game, so people spend good portions of their lives within wow while not doing anything. also online fps games are generally like a couple matches of the same thing and it gets boring for most people pretty quick (there are exceptions i know) so they stop playing and do something else. whereas in wow, you log on, do daily quests, get bored with that, do a bg, get bored with that, do some arena matches, get bored with that, do a couple dungeons, get bored with that, maybe try to pug a raid, get bored with that, oh look my daily quests reset, guess i'll do those again. oh i'm bored. repeat. 12 hours have passed.

like data mentioned, the fucking auction house is addicting, selling and reselling stuff to get more gold so you can what? buy a mammoth that your friends can also ride on? people treat it like a job. or surrogate life. "i may drive an '89 tercel irl but dammit i have a bitchin goblin motorbike in wow so it evens out" i dunno.

those are the expansions. so like vanilla wow only lets you level to 60 and you can't get into some areas/get some gear. then burning crusade lets you get to 70 and you get new areas and more gear, then wrath of the lich king gets you to 80 and you get more gear, and cataclysm gets you to 85 and all the gear.

yeah you are right, they are different.

fps addicts can play a LOT of fps though.

i wouldn't be melodramatic about it (i only played for 3 months!) but i live with two hardcore wow addicts who neglect their kid to play the fucking game.

actually i would be melodramatic but i think that's just me, nothing to do with wow lol.

Thing with WoW is there is something for everyone. I have friends who play on a pve server and collect "in game pets" and like get married and chat it up and whatnot. I'd honestly not play WoW if I couldn't PVP and gank people. I just wouldn't get my kicks.

That being said you don't have to treat wow like crack, but yeah its really easy to get addicted cuz its a great game any way you want to slice it. Last pvp season I'd play WoW once a week, get my 8 arenas out of the way to cap my conquest poinsts in an about 20 minutes and live my life for the rest of the week.

This season I'm playing a lot more cuz of rated bgs :) but you can definitely still choose your level of involvement.

phantasy star universe is the only mmorpg I've played at any serious level beyond trying a few shitting betas. so much fun with a few friends.

oh and there's a new phantasy star online coming out that looks like it'll be fucking amazing.

I played WoW for about a year and a half, and I only got way into it when my friends joined. Before that, I would just play for a few hours a week. After I had people to play with, I was one of those guys trying to study during a raid. It really did get in the way of writing music and school.

Online multiplayer games are very dangerous for me, so I stick to first person shooters and offline single player games.

If Mass Effect were an MMO you would likely never hear from me again
