I just realised that I hadn't FBed it, now put that right. Without wishing to be a pedant though, are Mute and One Little Indian still strictly independent? I thought they were EMI affiliates now? Don't get me wrong, I don't really care ultimately as they've gifted me with shitloads of superb music in the past whoever owns them, and both have a permanent place in my decrepit old heart.

They'll have to put on a japan disaster style concert and compilation album, for themselves !!

Also, bloody hell at the fire, that's annoying etc. (sincere, plz don't read as sarcasm osci)

Seriously, that wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, seeing as we've been having Record Store Days for a few years now. Across those labels likely to be affected it'd be quite something.

Wait a second, This is a Sony warehouse w/ insurance. Let them pay for that shit. Some label fool was going, we don't have riot insurance. Fuck that, it would be fire insurance and Sony would have it.

I would presume that the issue is around how quickly any insurance would pay out and how any payments would be calculated. There are going to be a metric ton of insurance claims as a result of the riots so there is likely to be a delay in money going to the record labels. So the big question is how the loss of the stock affects the cash flow into the business in the short term. If there is enough stock out at retailers to support the current levels of sales then they might be able to last until the insurance situation is sorted.

Weirdly, and depending on the exact nature of the policies, there is a chance that if a label can last until they get any insurance payments there is a potential for them to be in a better position. There could well be a surplus of back catalogue material they had which just hadn't or ever would sell in great numbers which when they're reimbursed for they could use to press up future releases or releases that they know will sell.

Anyway, that's just my view on it. I don't work in the insurance industry and I'm not Iggy Pop.

I heard that they're not insured if the damage occurred within a riot zone...?

friend of mine is putting this together, not sure exactly what they're gonna do but it's specifically for the smaller labels that can't really afford to wait on insurance/gov't payouts. i guess they're doing monetary donations and may well do a comp.

im genuinely happy about this particular incident.

burn the old world of hipster-faggotry consumerism of physical format, the music should have no physical form, record labels are a vile mutation of 20th century limitations.

soulless pricks that enjoy what happened, this could be the end for a lot of these independent labels as far as i can tell.

sad sad. :(

All of Warp's UK stock appears to have been lost in the fire. The Sony DADC warehouse also acted as our international distribution hub and so this has affected our ability to supply our overseas partners.
