I swear we had a spotify thread but cannae find it now.

So lets use this thread for posting listening recommendations, playlists and whatever else.

Since getting spotify I have been mostly listening to music I used to own.

Some unexpected things showed up on spotify:

Fionn Regan - 100 acres of sycamore (on its day of release) - recommend heartily to folk fans

Neil Young - Archive Vol 1 (its a $150 boxset, which i could never quite afford)

also it would be good to use this thread for posting watmm artists albums that are on spotify.

William S Braintree - This Is Story

hmm no wisp...no rephlex i guess

who else?

I was going to make a topic concerning the absence of labels such as Rephlex and Planet Mu. Kind of bugs me.. why?

Couldn't be bothered with Spotify before they improved the radio app. The radio can pick up the right songs when you choose to create an artist or track radio. Great when on the move and you don't have your library with you..

There's a lot of music missing. And the ads that don't have anything to do with what I listen to kinda suck. I was listening to a DMX Krew album and all of the sudden Justin Bieber started singing in my ears for 30 seconds.. Quite hilarious.

Considering that Rephlex had excluded themselves from the download market until a couple of years ago (and have done again since that Christmas Eve goldrush, it seems), is it really surprising that you can't get anything on Spotify?

I like to use Spotify for listening to music that I own that I still can't get to (i.e. in storage since I upped and moved to Norfolk). This thread reminds me, I actually pay for Spotify each month and haven't used it in ages, what a twat.

They don't feel they are being paid fairly.

I was actually planning on paying a little bit of cash and getting ad-free Spotify for a little while. Probably worth it, idk, I use it plenty with the ads so I might as well pay a little to get rid of the ads.

I bought Premium recently. Worth every penny.

I pretty much exclusively use Spotify for music listening at the moment.

Hm, well I think it's fair to mention that Spotify pays the artist zero to nothing even though they get millions of plays.

Anyway...

does the premium membership to spotify give you high quality streams? I never bothered trying the pay service because the normal stream was pretty low bit rate sounding. Says you can get a 30 day free trial, im going to try it for myself

because they probably want people to buy their records and have no reason to fill a service with essentially free streaming music to 'get the word out' so to speak. It makes a lot of sense why a label hurting for money especially would not want to be on spotify. Out of every single online distro service, they have by far the lowest pay out to the label/artist for the ratio of how many streams have been listened to. Frankly i don't even understand how they exist, i think a lot of labels who digitally distribute probably got automatically opted into their service and don't realize how little money is being made off of it. From what i remember Planet Mu caught onto this early and was just like 'woah, $1 for 1,000 listens, not worth it'

I'm pretty sure most of the RecordLabelRecords catalog is up there by now (haven't used spotify in about a year so double checking now)

Wisp has a track on there for sure from our compilation Drinking the Goat's Blod.

edit: just checked, almost everything from my label is there including wAgAwAgA, nommo ogo, kush arora, tomoroh hidari, etc including the new artist we just signed Salamander. Since im not trying to sell you guys anything, i dont consider it spam to say CHECK OUT SALAMANDER on spotify

question for Spotify experts out there, if i make a playlist for my label will other users be able to access it?

I figured this thread was resurrected to say that Planet Mu was now on board. Well it is, it seems. I didn't realize they had re-released Tango N'Vectif. Good shit.

Yes

hmm, after upgrading to be honest i don't really notice the stream being any higher quality than before. I'm assuming that im not the only one who feels like they are listening to a lossy format like 128 or slightly higher?

High quality 320kbps streaming is turned off by default even after subscribing.

You have to change it yourself in the prefs. They're either stupid or doing it to save a few pennies.
