Electronic music has made me a sad and lonely nerd.

My life would probably be better if I liked shitty club/radio music.

Well, maybe not.

I feel like this pretty often. I would have a lot more fun when I went to the typical club, and I definately would be a successful DJ by now. The only people I know that wanna hear some braindance, acid, jungle, and old skool techno in da club are scarce and tend to congregate in certain circles. I am lucky enough to know enough people like this to have a following.

Music is probably the biggest enjoyment I have in life. I wouldn't trade that for being able to like shit music just to be "fitting in".

Electronic, music was always a detour off my main highway of punk/metal/thrash/alternative rock.

I always have had those detours, not only electronic but ska, dub, reggae, 50's rock and roll a bit of hip hop etc.

In the last 5 years, maybe more, electronic has become my main highway.

There is so much going on with electronic music, the boundries and sounds are endless. It has a DIY ethic like punk and early hip hop, being that you kids can make it in your bedrooms.

It's rare I here any guitar music nowadays that knocks me sideways, I can always say 'I have heard that before and heard it done better'. Whereas new electronic music nowadays seems to me just as good as it's always been and has rejuvinated the Sherlock Holmes in me. Always listening and always on a mission to discover more.

It just fails a lot in the live arena for me. Only Aphex, Underworld and a few others can match the live experience. But nothing is perfect.

Discovering Warp, Planet Mu, etc. was like a musical epiphany that changed the way I listen to other types of music. Lately, Jazz has been doing that for me, and I hear everything in a Jazz state of mind, which is a good place to be.

computers and electronic instruments are just like any other instruments in essence, it's just tools. i don't hold electronic music as something special, sometimes it's great - autechre 97-05, sometimes it's nostalgia-core wank like boc.
