+1

I'm a big fan of Steve Reich. A collaboration with Aphex Twin sounds pretty fucking awesome.

Also, a 'world premier' of AFX material? Could this lead to a new release.... :spiteful:

Richard got an ovation! A little too "musique concrete" for my liking, but still great he's recognized as a musical talent despite not being in the public eye all that much these days.

And the good thing is: he will come more often to Poland, probably

Few bits from the yesterdays show:

Aphex played in the second part as the break was needed to prepare all the stuff for it. First was a piece of music based on pendulum music. In basics Reich first introduced a concept of microphone as a pendulum in front of the speaker (mentioning he came on this idea in mid 60s). Then he said, that usually there are like 3 microphones, but tonight it will be like 14. And so it was. There were 7 pendulum stands, each holding 2 disco balls (the ones with reflective surfaces), and each of them with microphone, hanging over a large speaker. Lasers were put onto them, giving lots of reflections all over, and the balls were set to swing. And the music started. Kind to hard to explain it - it was not totally random initially, so i doubt it was all coming from these microphones. Aphex was standing behind the swings, doing some of his stuff, but just standing, fully visible, not hiding behind his laptop, etc. It was rather a pleasant experience, kind of SAW, lots of bass eventually, and these lasers reflected from the balls, just wow. It lasted like 10-12minutes

The second track was a remake of Reichs Electric counterpoint, with Utley (Portishead) and some other guitarist on guitars, and Aphex in the back adding some electornic/ambient overlays from time to time. It was also pretty cool.

Then it was just done (long applause), and first Reich himself being given the flowers, that HE IMMADIETELY GAVE TO RDJ instead :). Again APhex quite happy about this, sending thumbs up to the audience. Reich mentioned that pendulum music is usually noise, but Aphex make it a music, and he really does not know how he did it.

Again (as during ECC last weekend) It was quite interesting experience, seeing Aphex in something different, this time much more listenable than Penderecki's remixes. All this experimentation gives me some hopes (am I naive?) that next proper Aphex album might be quite exceptional.

PS. Im not sure if there will be any nice video from this concert, as security was VERY PICKY about any cameras (even crap smarphones). I have an audio recodring, but due to lots of bass, it is barelly listenable :(.
