Honestly, I don't like listening to it because it is such bad quality and I want to hear it's full glory.

Problem is he's set himself up for a major fall if it doesn't meet up to expectations cos he's left it so long since the last album. Then Joyrex will say it's "quite good" when it does get released then AFX will make us wait another decade for the next album.

I don't see why it matters. If you've listened to enough music in your life, it's very unlikely that your mind will be blown by yet another electronic music release. So there shouldn't be any pressure on the guy, he should just put out what he's proud of, stuff that he likes, music that he's made that makes him feel warm inside.

;-]

Well, the longer he leaves it, the higher the expectations will be. You can imagine the "it took him 10 years to make this" scenario. Like you say, there shouldn't be any pressure, but there will be especially from the press.

Maybe there's a tipping point though, beyond which no one in the press will have heard of him. Then we'll get a flood of stuff that isn't hidden behind alias finally. The a-grade skank.

nevr noe.

With songs like the Manchester track, how can it possibly fail?

To be honest, I got bored of listening to it, even that sounds a bit dated now. It was 2008 after all.

yeah. But then i only listened to it once, and skimmed a bit probably, like you do. heh.

I expect it to be diferent from anything else, as usual.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

hi richard

hi richard!

I want more epic compositions along the lines of Ziggomatic and Mt Saint Michael where the melody comes into play around 4 minutes and by the end you're mesmerized by it. They're little musical journeys that never get old. That's what is lacking from the rdj album for me; tracks I can get lost in. Ziggomatic amazes me in almost the same way as Resident Evil 4 does; it doesn't have to add this bit! Or that bit! But it just keeps on going, and it flows incredibly. With Venetian Snares it seems like it comes naturally to him to create a countless number of these kind of schizophrenic compositions that twist and turn and never seem to know where they're going until they eventually get where they do, whereas I get the impression that with aphex twin that such epics are diversions for him and not his natural thing so he spends more time creating them and they're more rewarding to listen to. All his tracks of this type have numbers attached at the end of them, or scrambled up titles. Whereas Venetian Snares has something like the brilliant and simply named Flashforward that feels completely impulsive and instantaneous, and is not quite a masterpiece as something has thoroughly meticulously thought out as Ziggomatic is, in which every second is perfect. I'd say Cancel is Venetian Snares' most perfectly composed track, probably.

But I can't fret about what he'll release because there's always a number of tracks from each release that sound like they were made entirely for me, that hit the spot completely, where every beat just hits at exactly as I want it to, like he's reading my mind, and it's as satisfying as music gets. I got that from death fuck mental beats recently. There's a lot of supposedly 'good' music out there, but to find stuff that feels like the artist is inside your head making the music you wish you could but can't? That scratches that itch, that gives you your daily fix? It's almost too irritating to listen to stuff that gets nowhere near.

It will be melodies from mars run through an exciter. He has even made an album cover in gimp and everything.

If you preorder it you get a 30 mic bonus cd of him playing banjo.

triachus

yelling AAAA really straings the voice, and the tiny h really represents the struggle and hardship a vocal chord must endure for yelling AAAA

I just hope it shows off everything he does well. His music has a personality to it that other artists try to mimic, but you can always tell it's not AFX. Monolith for example does an awesome job of making music in the Tuss style, but it's easy to tell it's not RDJ. It's missing an element of surprise.
