I haven't tried it much though, I feel it doesn't fit with my workflow, I'm very attuned to Ableton Live...

I suppose what you're attuned to in Ableton Live is precisely the fact it's designed for a live use or at least thought as a tool which allows to make music in an intuitive way, where you don't have to bother about the workflow too much.

But I don't know, at the moment I'm thinking about beginning to transpose my tracks in a live setup and maybe I'm just gonna keep my regular one. Reaper rewiring Renoise + electribe + BCF2000 + a keyboard. I need to adapt all my songs and obtain a clear workflow but I'm sure I can somewhat manage to have a good and fluid one that way.

EDIT : welcome by the way

I think it's mainly because of how it feels more like a traditional studio environment (like logic) and Ableton is nothing like this.

Also I use Live's built-in stuff a lot and it's weird to be without that kinda stuff!

Also, thanks for the welcome :)

I was going to pay for a Logic upgrade, but I'm thinking I should probably just download Reaper and have at it.

Just need moar time for musiks, plz

WTF is the problem with GUI?

When you scroll up and down, it zooms in and out. When you scroll left and right, it scrolls right and left. This isn't exactly intuitive. Otherwise, for the most part, it's pretty straightforward.

My feeling about the GUI and the behaviour of the mousewheel is that it's clear and intuitive. I was just full of love when I realised that the mousewheel just ZOOMED IN THE FUCKIN' TIMELINE when I used for the first time because I've always thought that's the way that button MUST behave in any DAW.

You know, like constantly zooming in and out in Supreme Commander

I tried it over a year or two ago (not sure what version) and it was still a bit quirky to me. I couldn't really get into it. But a few days ago I downloaded the latest version and I REALLY like it now. They seem to have tightened up the features a lot. I think I'm going to fully switch over to it. I love Ableton Live, but I get stuck too much just making a bunch of loops and never editing them into a full song. I'm just not disciplined enough for its style of workflow. Traditional DAWs tend to force me to get out of loop mode, which is good. I was looking for a good alternative to Cubase, since I've hated that bloated piece of shit ever since I started working in Live.

ya i totally agree with you , ableton is great for live stuff but i hate how the work flow is. its not really for people who want to experiment

I like the whole ethos about no dongles, DRM or any of that nonsense. It's nice to know they're assuming I'm a customer and not a criminal.

Y'all didn't even mention the Jesusonic scripting engine. It has its own funkiness and limitations but it's a pretty stupendous thing to have built into a DAW.

I just opened some projects I started in Reaper a while back, and it seems to have 'forgotten' the way I had my VSTs set up...as in, it's completely forgotten knob positions.

wtf is up with that?! anyone else experienced this?

if this is gonna be happening a lot, I'm gonna have to go back to using Cubase.

Yeah, i get this, but only with Edirol HQ Orchestral. All other plugins are fine!

I've just had it with Nithonat, Nepheton, and Tyrell VSTs

seriously, this is really fucking bad.

It's definitely a problem with the plugin rather than the DAW as exactly the same happens to me with Buzz using it.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I gotta say...I don't remember ever having my VST settings lost when using Cubase...

I had the same problem once with another d16 group plug which was Phoscyon, and I clearly identified the problem as coming from the vst as I just updated it to a newer version. Actually I can remember now that the same thing happened with Devastor.

Reaper is good cos its cheap, but yeah its vst support is deffinitly a bit dodgy, thay need to sort that out pronto.

That doesn't explain why I don't have the same problem within Cubase.

I actually wonder if the first time I had this problem wasn't on Nuendo. And I'm sure I already see that on Renoise as well.

Would it be possible that you never experienced that in Cubase because you did actually never open a project containing older versions of those plugs ?

Nope because the version of the VSTs hasn't changed from going between Cubase and Reaper

I remember there's bunch of options in Reaper that deal with how you save the VST parameters in a project file. there's a safe mode that basically saves everything including all banks and just about everything, and some other save modes... maybe you flipped a switch somewhere or a default changed.... try digging around in the options menu.

This would be a good question/issue for the Reaper forum. Its not unheard of for the dev's to get involved personally in such vst problems and get in touch with the other developers themselves if there is something funny going on.
