is there a nice basic/must have list of VST's you boys would recommend that I get for reaper? (not too fond of the Cockos VST user interfaces)

just some of the nicest free ones out there that'll give me a good selection to start manipulating stuff for sound design purposes?

having come from a small bit of protools use where the effects are pre-instaled and now jumping to Reaper makes me feel like a timid little girl when searching for VSTs

I nearly broke my neck trying to populate macca's free plugins list thread with cool/obscure/interesting/fun/strange stuff, don't let the lack of member participation and discussion fool you, I buried some cool shit in those last few pages.

many thanks for this - however, dare I ask how much difference a day makes?... Most of these posts are dated 06/07 - has there been little development in VST's since then or are these oldies still just as good if not better than whats currently around today?
