this is one of those releases man. this one is going to do it for me. and "never got into actress" COME ON! just listen to redit 124. heck listen to the ep he released this year. don't think patten is darren C but definitely in the same subterranean computer garbage vein. you know the episode of cowboy bebop where they go to earth to the museum and get some tv's so they can play that beta tape? that's the environment i mean.

well it got a pretty mediocre review from bitchfork, but what the fuck ever.

i just recently got my english degree, and every time i read a pitchfork review it reminds me of doing peer reviews. they seriously think they are scholars. Nearly every review that is in the 5.9-6.9 range ends with "the record feels static, (artist name) needs to set things in motion."

i bet they have some kind of template depending on the rating bracket. i've long since gotten over hating them though. I just think reviewing and writing about music to that extent is so futile and unnatural.

congrats on the degree and welcome to the club. *flips burger.* guess you won't be going on and getting your PhD then given that last sentence?

hahaha. well i definitely don't want to work in music journalism. i did creative writing so there isn't such an impetus that i immediately go into a 40k job. i'm in a dormant stage now. i wrote a good story about a burger joint employee actually. flipping burgers is very inspiring to me.

I regularly check watmm for listening suggestions and was intrigued by all the love in this thread. Frankly I am having trouble enjoying this album - it just sounds abrasive, messy, and totally over-compressed in the worst way. "Blush mosaic" sounds like something Thom Yorke/Radiohead would try to make.. yeah I went there.

Can someone explain why everyone seems to like this so much? I've seen threads berating this type of messy, excessive compression production so I was surprised to see everyone eat this up. It gives me a headache. Is electronic music leaving me behind?

Yes, and in fact early copies will have an extra cd of 1o tracks of unreleased material. Check Boomkat.

This made me think a bit about why I like the album so much and I'm having a really hard time trying to explain it. I myself have turned my nose up at music with similar characteristics but for some reason, this album just resonates with me. It's like the perfect storm of controlled creative improvisation with pleasing sounds that produces a vibe I can't get enough of. But (in a rare moment) I'm actually at a loss for words trying to pinpoint it!

I don't think electronic music is leaving you behind, I think this is just another offshoot that perhaps you don't care for. I felt the same way about Rustie's "Glass Swords" album... I cannot get through one single track off that record without getting massively bored or appalled, yet everyone is gushing over it. They're even comparing it to video game music and I LOVE video game music! But I cannot get into that album.

Also, did anyone else get a SAWII vibe from Patten's Boiler Room TV live set around 8:10 - 9mins in? Loved it.
