schematic is extremely underrated! here's to hoping they can continue their recent upswing alongside DETUND™

  • 2 months later...

I'm listening to Steve Hauschildt - Tragedy & Geometry right now. Seriously one of the best records I've heard in a long time. And most review I've read of it seem to be slightly down on it.

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

Overrated--

-Alva Noto (solo work. however, his work w/ryuichi sakamoto, is some of my favorite ambient music)

-Clark (prepares to receive hate, but really, he isn't anything special past a few tracks between turning dragon or totems flare)

-Die Antwoord

-Burial

-M83

IN THE MIDDLE--

-Ceephax, I love the whole old skool acid thing, but in terms of his melodies, sometimes they verge on just being spliced from a game of tetris on fast forward or a bad arcade game. That being said, I have a love hate relationship with Ceephax, I don't deny his talent, just don't really like the melodies in his songs

Underrated--

-E.O.D

-Wisp

-ROT13 (MANY afx rip-offs, and not gonna lie, his stuff is in the top 1% of it)

-Ultre

"You could always do a Thoreau and walden your ass into a forest." - chenGOD

completely underrated

thanks for the reminder. great album.

i say this very lightly, as I love both. BUT, I will jump off the deep end here with:

Overrated: Wutang

compared to the underrated: Black Moon/Boot Camp Clik/Da Beatminerz.

Functioning roughly around the same time, both out of Brooklyn. I just don't think they get enough play, compared to a similar group, like Wu.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

I've finally got around to listening to Pavement, who are hailed by many as indie gods, but the best thing about them that I can glean is that some of their lyrics are kind of interesting. Melodically and arrangement-wise it seems pretty mediocre, the playing is really sloppy, and Steve Malkmus just sounds bored out of his skull when he sings. Where's this genius that so many are taken in by? Usually I can at least understand the hype around bands that critics spooge hard for, but... this one's lost on me. I know people with music opinions I respect who admire these guys, so I'm going to give it all at least one more listen. But I swear they're just kind of a shitty band.

I listened to the first MGMT album a while back after seeing positive comments on WATMM, aside from Kids & Electric Feel (which I quite dug), I was borrrrrredddd

and I'm usually able to groove to pitchforky indie pop so it's not my IDM nerd coming out here
