Aphex Twin Flex - by Chris Cunningham

After 3 years I've finally rediscovered my Chris Cunningham Directors Label DVD featuring a 4 minute extract of the Flex installation short featuring music by ol' Aphex Twin. Now having seen other clips I know that it's pretty much just reworkings of Drukqs material but does a full good quality version of flex exist anywhere on the Internet - I believe the full video is around 15 minutes long...

That's the only version i've been able to find of it besides the audio recordings... glad you started a thread about it, who knows we may get lucky someday. How the hell has Cunningham not released this on any official formats? I wonder if James gets a say in it at all

I'm glad you posted this, I've searched a few times. Was always pretty disappointed that I wouldn't be able to see the short film in full.

Hopefully he'll release another boxset... or put it onto a dvd as an extra. When he actually releases a feature film :angry:

Woah, when searching the internets to see if the 12 minute version did indeed have cuts I found this on Cunningham's wikipedia entry:

Seems like that decent quality upload of the Spectral Musicians clip has been taken off youtube :/ That was a real treat as well.

Bumped (I know it's naughty) in the vain attempt that anyone knows where to view the full a good quality full length version of Flex and/or Spectral Musicians

I saw the full one screened once at the Egyptian in Hollywood, but don't remember how long it was. The track mostly used though is "Perc #6" from the Or Some Computer Music compilation.

It also has bits of SAW II as well.

Wasn't Flex included on the Chris Cunningham DVD? I have that, but can't recall...

Yeah it has a 4 minute extract/remix but not the whole piece.

I viewed the full version on youtube(?) a long time ago (I wanna say 2006), but I've only been able to find the 4 minute clip since then as well.

I know that's not much help, but the full version (not filmed off of a screen) has existed in some point in time.

Edit: Oh wait, it probably wasn't youtube. That was back in the days when it was impossible to see a boob on that website (it may have been before google bought it). I wish I knew where I saw it.

Ah, I might've actually seen that one. It was a while ago.

I saw the whole version (or at least an approx. 15 min version) as I was something like 14, in a Warp party in France. At this time my father was quite into Aphex, Squareusher and the likes and he went there with a friend of him and took me as well. I think he felt a little bit uncomfortable when the short started to turn pretty porn and he had to ask me if everything was alright.

Anyway, I found it quite crazy at the time and I regret I couldn't find this full length version anymore since that time. The short one on the Cunningham DVD is quite frustrating. Weird it's never been released somehow.

I might have the full one in my archives... I recall someone filming it at the installation and sending me a cam version of it for the site...

Around the time he was touring and made that Gil Scott-Heron video for "New York Is Killing Me" it was said he was working on a full album's worth of audiovisual mashup's simillar to the GSH vid (some of it being footage shown during his live shows). It was said it was going to be released as a CD/DVD combo, this hasn't happened yet of course, but if it did it would be cool to have these as features on the same DVD. I hate how it seems Chris follows through 50% of the time (if even) with his ideas in recent years.
